Locally, the Sigma 70-200 seems to be more affordable...

The Tamron local set seems to be in the price range of $1400 to 1500... Overpriced, if you ask me... Since B&H selling it for USD679 only... Even with singular Shipping and GST also will add up to only about $1200...

Tithes was bad... But imagine the profit margin that JEL Corp (Tamron's new distributor) is trying to make...

Hi,
I guess if you are looking at a much more superior optical quality then I suggest you look at the Tamron rather then the Nikon(80-200F2.8 Af-D & 70-200F2.8 Af-S VR sold recently) as I own this lenses before I sold it at a great loss .
I kept the Tamron as I have compared them photo to photo but not in Speed Focusing but Optical to Optical Quaity its 2 thumbs up for the Tamron .
The technology used in Tamron Optical Glass is much more advance and superior than the rest .
For I have even visited the manufacturing plant in Japan many times and its super Huge compare to those other 3rd party lens maker and Tamron is also the inventer for a lot of very high quality Optical glass ( comparable to those German lens ) which Tamron is supplying to those Top 5 Brand maker .
So as my personal reference I still love this Tamron lens .
Is made like a tank with Superior optical quality but not in Speed focusing as I only use manual focusing.
Remember its a new whole ERA in photography as this is a Digital age unless we are talking about Film photography only.
Nikon has only made a handful of Excellent quality lenses like the 14-24mmF2.8,24-70mmF2.8,105mmMacro ,105mmDC ,10-24mm SWM(new),50mmF1.4(Old),300mmF4(Af-S) & F2.8,200-400mmF4Af-S VR ,70-300mmAF-S VR,80-400mmVR,400F2.8VR ,200mmF2 VR ,200mmF4Macro,60mmF2.8Macro ,24mmPC-EF3.5 ,85mmF2.8 PC-E ,17-55mmF2.8AF-S ,,10.5mmFisheye and 35mm(New)F1.8 .
As I have mentioned on the above lenses made by Nikon in which I have owned and used before and this are one of those very Superior lenses that made by Nikon own plant .
But you have to paid a lot more than a Tamron lens .
I myself Only used very Superior Optical lenses that is made by Tokina or Tamron only other then all my Nikon lenses.
So my dear friend at the end of the whole episode its also boils down to your photography skills and arts of composition .
A lot of factor has to take into consideration like a very high quality workstation or minimum a Mac Book Pro or a G5 with Super good Graphic card and A Very High End Monitor by Eizo or NEC or Sony (Only Found In Japan costing between 5 to 25 thousand in sing.) with a very good Profile Calibrator ( its has to be Industrial Standard).
Using a very High End Digital camera only play a small parts in digital photography but with a very High End Software will play a more important role in your editing your photos (jpeg or raw )(as I do not edit my photos a lot for I only take in RAW files ).
OOPs!!!! forgot to mention just SOLD my Tamron today to a Student as he wanted it for his school project with great Loss again but its ok at least he know that its much more superior then other made lenses which he had owned before.
Thats all I have to share with those who wanted to understand more of lenses from me (a retireed old man Liao ) who travelled to Japan very often every 2 to 3 months for my visiting and photography experiences with some of the Top Japanese Photographer's Kakis .
Hope to meet you guys and share my photography experiences.
I am very new to this local website which was introduce by my brother in law .
Take care to those who want to share and drink kopi-o with me .
Ciao

wah!

i honestly thought all Tamron lenses are cheaper than Sigma

If you wanna use the lens with teleconverter, you should think about the Sigma. I `ve heard very often that Sigma works very well with teleconverter.

How much is Sigma 70-200mm f2.8?

Wow:o !!!
I didn't realize that Sigma and Tamron lens could cost so much.
Of course, can't compare to Nikkor.

hey guys, i may need some suggestion too
well, i owned tokina 11-16mm f2.8
tamron 17-55mm f2.8

and this sigma 70-200mm f2.8 is really ideal of my choise
as if i get nikon 80-200mm f2.8, there is big gap from 55mm from my range
does it make sense?

but btw, i am a bit confused about this two lenses, are they the same?
http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/sigma_70-200_2p8_n15/

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sigma-70-200m...66:2|39:1|72:1690|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

is that one in ebay good price?
i was thought of HSM II is newer ver, but i dun kow are they the same

sorry guys, i used nikon d80, is it good compatitble?

For abt the same price I dun see any reason not to get the better nikkor 80 200. The nikkor 80200 is a proven lens and is still use by pro still now. The lens technology has been perfect by nikkor since many decades ago. You will not miss that much lobang from 50 to 80mm. ;)

Used by pro doesnt mean they are good lens. Some were force to use as they were sponsors by Nikon company or some were payed to advertise or help them in business only. So need to double consider it carefully. ;)

Oh yeah.. how we wish we are them force to use their trinity lenses... think is every Cs's dreams...:bsmilie:

I am planning on adding a telephoto to my lens setup and have been doing some reading on reviews that the tamron is slower in AF compared to the Nikkor AFS 70-200 but the IQ is good. Of cos the AGS 70-200 is way out of budget for me so 3rd party lens would be the next best thing for me (love my 17-50 so I got no problem with 3rd party). I also know that Nikkor as the older 80-200 which is suppose to be a good buy at around my budget(ard 1.6k).

Would like to find out (if anyone has used both before) how are the AF speeds? Cos if the tamron's AF speed especially in low light is around the same as the 80-200 then I would get the tamron. Most "extreme condition" I guess that I would be using the lens is the upcoming F1 I guess.

Thanks in advance :)

best is you rent both lenses to try out. Or if you really serious in buying go to a reputable shop they would be grad to let u try both. For me i would choose IQ quality as my first priority so in this case i would only go for the nikkor 80-200.

Well, bro Oldtimer, you have got a point there. And certainly, you know your stuff well.

Now, I have got a different opinion. I have personally used the Nk80-200 for a few years before selling it away. It is a fabulous lens, built like a tank and gives pictures with great colour saturation, but, a big but is that the focusing speed is somewhat slow compared with those with USM, HSM or AF-S. That is the main reason why I sold it off.

The Sigma 70-200 HSM - fast and quiet focusing. Throught the years, the quality of Sigma lenses have improved a great deal, especially their EX range of lenses are on par with the best.

For anything that moves, be it sports or other events or even your kids playing in the playground, you need fast focusing speed in order to capture the moment. The precious moment lost is gone forever.

There is certainly some differences in optical performance for each lens. But, unless you look at the corner at 100%, the diff is insignificant.

I do not know about the folks here, but the biggest I have printed is 12x18 inch and not that often. At that size, the minute diff you see on the monitor doesn't really matter.

Need to clarify something, the tamron dont have a full time manual focus.... when in AF u can manual focus like sigma and nikon but in tamron u cant.
Does that make alot of different? and how does tamron work in AFA or AFC in Nikon???

either sigma and tamron 70-200 can autofocus on Nikon D60 right?

either sigma and tamron 70-200 can autofocus on Nikon D60 right?

as long as they comes wit built-in motor...
HSM for sigma n normal DC motor for tamron...

my choice is 80-200 even though i found that the focus a bit slow compare with the HSM, but the sharpness are there with no doubt

Very interesting perspective, OLDTIMER!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
