Maybe recording the sound down and post it up so we can listen?

Any site to recommend, I've never tried it before.

why not bring it down to service centre for them to take a look..
it's under warranty right?

The Sony service centre is 1+hr drive away from where I stay, I've just managed to register
my product and emailed them about the problem.
Guess I might not be able to bring it out to SG when I go visit my sis.:(

where u live need 1 hr drive? maybe u can meet up with someone who lives near u to listen to ur lens af to see if it is normal or abnormal

I haven't the full reply, but I HAD the same problem.

I bought my 70-200G from a local reputable shop, found out that it was 'used' somehow by the amount of dirt in front element. Replaced with a new one, but found out that the shrieking sound toward end of focusing really annoys me. I finally replaced it with another new copy that free from all these problem.

I am quite sensitive to sound, so having hearing the sound every focusing, really bothers me. In outdoor, sometimes, you can hear it very loud. You can try to replace or service it.

Thx guys for all the replies, at least now I can confirm that it's not normal. I shall try to
resolve the matter with the shop/Sony.

Good luck.. My best guess is that there was some screws too tight or something. Not sure if SSC can help, but I was reluctant of having new lens to be torn apart in servicing.

u better send in to Sony @ Wisma...

I've sent it in to SSC cos the shop refused to change for me, got to wait about approx 2 weeks. ;p

-------------------------------

Very sad, Sony Malaysia just called to say that they can't fix it locally, it has to be sent back to Japan and will take a month.
Very angry with the shop which refused to do an exchange for me.

Happen to find at dynaxdigital about this 70-200 case (pics on 5th page).
Another Pic at dyxum from the same guy.
It's making me worry sick about what would happen to mine.
This 1st G has left me with a bitter taste, if it doesn't come back in good condition,
might just consider switching camp. If only Minolta was still around and not Sony ...:(

That's exactly why I didn't want to send mine to repair. You may got worse off. Frankky speaking, it should be easier just to live with it (annoying but non critical issue) or sell it. I understand many would get from you at attrative pricing, of course, declare the issue to buyer to be fair.

Just took back my lens, very happy with the work done.
No scratches at all and no more weird sounds. :bsmilie:
