I have the 70-200 2.8 IS, I don't really find the weight with my 350D with grip, a problem and I don't train or do weights.

I'm happy enough with the images, most of the pics can be used straight out of the cam without additional sharpening or changes in contrast.

I think the most important advantage is the ability to shoot indoors without a tripod. 1/30s at 200mm?

prices have plunged down quite abit.. a new set will be more worth it! seldom see this lens on sale at BnS. guess it's just too good! heh! yup.. nothing can replace this lens when the situtation calls for it!

One of the most wonderful thing about this lens is that I can use it in low light conditions without any flash.

Used many times in church where I don't really want to go too near the subjects and still get decent shots each time.

on a whim, i tried a copy of the 70-200/2.8IS at a shop today, but with or without turning the IS on, between ƒ/2.8 to ƒ/4 i could not seem to get the same level of sharpness that i am used to with my own 70-200/4.

perhaps i tried a bad copy?

Wide open, it is not as sharp as an F/4. Even when stopped down to F/4, the F/4L lens still beats it, but you'd have to be pixel peeping to tell the difference.

If you compare its image quality with MF Leica APO70-180/2.8 and carl zeiss 70-210/3.5 on tripot, the 70-200IS is BAD lens. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:
but if you compared it with Nikon AFS 70-200/2.8 G VR and Pentax FA*80-200/2.8, it is the excellent lens canon had ever made.:bsmilie:

if all AF lenses, only expensive Minolta/Sony SSM 70-200G can match it, but no IS, and AS body are not effective as IS lens.

I'm newbie here. Want some opinion, is it worth to buy 70-200L f2.8 IS on a 1.6 crop body (10D)? Or will the f4 suffice? I'm shooting indoor events and sometimes outdoor/nature, both for hobby and passion, not prefessional works.

"No difference in image resolution can be seen in digital images produced with an EOS-1Ds. Current digital cameras have sensors that will only resolve 50-60 line pairs per mm, so the lack of detectable difference in resolution with the EOS-1Ds is not surprising."

I've one in use for 3 years now, still one of my favourite lenses in case I get caught in a flash rain with my 1D.

I've been using it since August 04. One heck of a solid lens. But weight takes some getting used to.

I am not a technical guy so graphs and charts dun work for me..... i bought the 70-200 f2.8L since sep '06 and never looked back. Punchy colours, great contrast, sharp images and beautiful bokeh.... and the USM is fast and silent. In fact, the images are so good that i tell myself not to buy another len unless it is L. (I went on to buy the 28-70 f2.8L last week....)

I also like the fact that it is f2.8. May be beacuse i migrated from a f3.5-6.3, i like the fact that there are min hunting under low light. I find the weight manageable (I am not particularly big fellow), and the IS a godsent.

Down side: Other than the hefty price tag, I dun like the fact that it is WHITE... it simply attract too much attention, esp when u have the hood on (I Always have it on), it looks... BIG I also dun like the tripod collar: it cannot be removed unless u remove the lens from the body. And firing away with it in position hinda hinder the holding. (But u can rotate it away to the right, away from your left hand). Some do complaint of noisy IS but I find mine quite ok.

Overall verdict: Great lens.. worth (in my opinion) every cent of it. Well built delivers. Go get one if u r planning so already....

I've removed the tripod collar since day one because I always shoot with this lens handheld. That's the great thing about IS right
