Not a killer flaw, but the Tascam DR-40's VUmeter does not correspond to any NLE. Generally indicating 30% higher levels than what is recorded.

My worst nightmares:
No.7 clipped audio.
Tried many de-clipper softwares. Nothing works!
No.6 blown highlights.
Can't restore details when none exist!
No 5. lens fog.
No easy way to unsmear footage shot with fungus/moisture in the lens
No.4 crossing the line.
Mirror/flop filters just look weird especially when there's text, moles/tatoos, and over the shoulder shots
No.3 Audio drop outs
How do you fill gaps in the waveform other than resorting to ADR
No 2. Out of focus subject.
in HD, it's really obvious. Edge Sharpening filters just add more noise.
No 1. STOPPED recording.
The ultimate gone case, lost cause, catastrophe. No shot at all due to dead battery, card error, or pressing record twice!
Any horror stories to share?
no. 2 and no. 6 very common mistake - as in i always kena these two
btw, what does no. 4 mean?
Crossing the line is an error in camera position. But the error manifest intself only during editing when you have no other shot choice. Let me give you an example.
You are filming a person on the stage. You stand on the left side of the hall. You asked a friend to stand across you on the right side of the hall and film the audience reaction.
From your angle, the speaker is looking right. During editing, you need a shot of the audience looking left.
But the footage from you friend's camera shows the audience looking right, not left!
The camera has crossed the imaginary line running from the speaker to the audience.
If those cameras are the only angles you got, you're screwed.
Same applies to conversation scenes, sport events, fight scenes. etc when there are two parties engaging one another on screen.
I think correct me if I am wrong that No. 4 refers to 180 degree rule which needs to be followed or broken based on your video needs...

If you guys dont follow this channel already it helps videographers and filmakers a lot (Indymogul). A video made by them about 180 rule

Hahah.. This is awesome. you need to know when to use the rule and when to break it, and you better have a darn good artistic sense to break it!
I also follow Film Riot alot.
Ah I also have another sin..
Shadow/reflection of crew members/camera in the shot!! Shot something for fun two weekends ago and found that some of my footage had unwanted shadows/reflection. tried to fix it in AE but eventually decided to leave it. sometimes you don't realise it until you put it on a laptop... but I decided not to dwell over it.
