thanks for all the recommendation.

i love to have D700 but i will left little $$ for lens.

maybe i can go for D300 but some say D90 is better.. lol, im confused.
correct me if im wrong, D300 is faster in term of speed and D90 is better in ISO.

I alway wanted to get 70-200mm VR (my dream lens)

i want fast and sharp lens so i will prefer f2.8 type of lens
now i got 18-200 VR but not fast enough ;p

need to do some research before i go purchase all items. :)

as for speedlite, i will go for SB800 (good enough la) :bsmilie:

Given a choice, you choose which option:

a) average body + 2-3 good lens (f2.8)+ Flash
b) Highend body (D700/D3) + 1 lens.

cheers

Personally i go for option 'a'.

if ur totally new
i think d90 + 16-85VR + 70-300VR + sb800

should covers every aspect of photography
i believe only till u shoot for a long time then u really know wat u want else u will be buying and selling and repeating

D700+24 70 f/2.8 G is your best combo

I'd go option A. Bodies go obsolete much faster than lenses... so I'd get an average body to learn photography, and until I get proficient enough, then I'd go for a higher end body.

I have a D300 but have not tried a D90 (waiting to borrow my frens one to have a go at it), but from what I read, D300 is suppose to have better AF and both are comparable in high ISO. The D90 has most of the functionality that general photographer would need.

You will find that as you move on, you may like to have more than 1 body, and more than one flash... but definately more than 1 lens ;) So when you move forward, your older camera body can serve as your backup, and you can get more than 1 flash. Look at a survey of how many of us has more than one flash... so even if you start with SB600, it is a great flash and has most of the functionality that you would need in comparison to the SB800 (or SB900). The D90 (and D300 but not D3) has a commander mode which can trigger your SB600 (and SB800) as a slave. SB800 (and SB900) has a built in commander mode as well for cameras without the commander mode.

Sell your 18-200 to expand your budget abit and get this d90/300 + 17-55 f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 vr + any speedlight sb600 and above. Should be able to squeeze in all of that. Will last you a very very long time.

Hey hey, hah yes its tough to choose esp if u have the mula$$$$ its true, i would get option a as what Mr Leong mentioned. Ive been using my olympus e330 for my never ending streets shots till the rubber grips deformed .. bcos its so small and light.(Option a) Iam only using my D700+MB10, SB-900 AND FX lens for my assignments. .. hey i could see only my right bicep bulging due to the weight. My opinion . get an average body . zoom lens and u will be smiling ear to ear , Save the cash for a later date. Wont be surprise if Nikon decided to leave us shocked again!! Happy snapping my friend. PS i u see a guy with right bicep bulging holding a cam.. Say hai ya!!!

Is it your first camera?
If So,
D300 + 24-70/17-55 + 70-200 + Maybe a flash if got cash (SB-800)
Slowly upgrade to the Magnificent D3X (Coming Soon) or D700!

option A anytime,a good lens has a shelve life of more than 3 years, that very long in Digital year.

for me

I got the D700 + 105mm VR + 24mm f2.8 and will get the new AFS 50mm f1.4.

I think this cover me from 24mm to 105mm. allows me to shoot at f1.4 ISO6400 in low light. Gives me VR2 at 105mm. Allows me to shoot macro at 1:1.

For me I don't see the point of getting a heavy 70-200mm VR. expensive and I seldom need the 200mm.

I was thinking about getting the new 24-70mm instead. But in the end, I opt for the 3 lens combo as it gives me F1.4 and VR2 for around the same cost.

D700 + 28mm F1.4 + SB900
Learn from there, see which range you need. Use the money on necessary lenses.
Maybe you can try 70-300 VR.

Get the D700 and 24mm-70mm f2.8

i would get the P6000 and use the rest of the money for a 2 months backpacking trip to china or nepal or tibet or Indonesia or vietnam or cambodia or Laos or Myanmar or thailand.... or just to bali and hang out for 6 months .. shiok.. learn to use the cam while on on the train or some u knw !! ...

I persoanllt think you are an IDIOT to have even post a thread like this to ask this kind of question. Either you are showing off, telling people that you have 6k to splurge or you are plain stupid, do not even know what your need and liking is.

Well, if I were piggy30, I will be the same to me too. Cannot make up the mind.
Whether it is hard earned money or 'tio' TOTO/4D. I would want to spent it wisely.

I brought my D200 + 18-200VR + SB800 + bag 1.5 years ago for 4K+, after scouting for almost 9 months and making up my mind to buy them. No regards. V happy with it.

Next target D800 maybe....
