60D or used 5D MKI

At DPP when I adjusted the color temperature to match, it becomes very yellow. Both were shot in raw. They were not shot at the same time but under the same condition. Here is a photo of the 17-55f2.8 on 60D shot in the day at about 5pm outdoor.

This (to my eye), looks very good!

I used to have a 30D, under the same conditions and lens. the IQ of 5D Mk 1 is much richer. I'm not sure about the 60D, was actually thinking of getting a 60D or 7D. Is the IQ on 60D or 7D as good or better than the 5D ?

i'll go for 5dmk1 . =D but i'm a 50d user. haha

To those who say once you go FF, you never go back to crop, it's not the case for me and perhaps others as well. After I got my FF, I acquired a crop for reach and speed. For all the wonders of FF, one thing they are not is being fast.

Actually I would like to correct something I said. I erroneously said that this should not happen. But in actuality this very common among any brand/model of camera. I think you mentioned that the true colour of the wall was some variant of white. If you look at the two pictures you posted, Anthony, the 60D shows a pink cast and the 50D displays and yellow cast.

This is caused by the artificial lighting and every camera will behave similarly but will sometimes cast a different colour as we can see between the 50D and 60D. Even the white areas of the mask are affected although the effect is much more subtle because of the size of the white beads on the eye lids.

This is easily corrected in post processing which I've demonstrated at this link:

However the edited picture uses fluorescent white balance, which comes too strong to the picture. The wall is extremely white and unnatural. Perhaps its to do with the lens used? the 50D wasnt using the 17-55...

You are correct. The 60D was using 17-55f2.8 and the 5D, the OM 50f1.4 and they were shot on different days but under similar room light situation, also at different angles. However, I shot portraits with similar lens on both the cameras and they also behaved differently. In the day the 60D and the 5D are very similar in color rendition but the 5D still provides better width in color tone transition and subject isolation even at small apertures.
In my opinion, the 60D is worth more than what it's selling for now. So those who are interested, please buy with confidence.

Anthony, have you tried in camera custom white balance correction. See my post here for an explanation:

Both cameras used 18% grey card to set custom white balance and yet they appear different. I always shoot in raw also and the images also behave differently when processed with DPP. I am a very difficult person to please and the current generation of sensors may not be to my liking. I have looked at the K-5 and the E-5 and will also test the D7000. So far, the differences are not really that great, that's why I said that the 60D is truely of great value for its price. But they all seem to have the same feel and look that I don't like as far as the image drawing style is concerned. I just love the "painterly" drawing style that the 5D/40D can produce with certain alternate lenses.

Well done raydio. I saw the picture edited by you and a lot difference has change. Since it was mentioned that different camera behaves differently in colours, is there any settings we might learn and use from your own experience instead of using the PS.

Hi Wilbert488. There is no single solution for in-camera. It is a matter of playing around and getting the correct white balance by using the camera's custom white balance feature. The more you practice it, the better you get at it. Anthony Lee and Nightpiper have covered this in another thread. Here are a few of their posts from that thread (you'll have to scroll through the page to get to their posts):

Good luck! :)

scenery and portrait?
that is what FF like 5d designed for.
there is no other bodies can match the IQ at such a low price(1.5-1.6k 2nd hand) !
