60D now available in spore

60D is not an upgrade from 50D, so it's not an upgrade from 40D either. I think you should get the 7D
Personally I wish 60D was something like Nikon's D7000...I just don't like how Canon realigned their series now. I guess the price shows that quite clearly

I tink for a hobbyist or normal urban or vacation shoot, the worry about the 60D having a plastic body is really nonsense la.:complain::complain:
Unless you are a Pro Photographer covering a story in a war zone then the concern or need for an alloy body is justified.
Metal body or not its not gonna give you better photos.
How many of us have actually wear out a plastic body DSLR anyway?:think:

It is probably not so much about the actual material used than it is about the tactile feel of the body casing on the hands. After getting used to the grippy 7D, my 450D felt like a slippery toy.

I fully agree, also think of it this way, the plastic body is actually lighter and easier to carry around and is a bonus when one is travelling. Plus the advancement in technology has made plastics as tough (at least for daily usage and hobbyist) as metal-alloy body

thanks.. wonder if SLR Revolution price will be more competitive
Was looking at the authorised dealer and could not find SLR Revo in the Canon website?

Don't think the plastic is lighter by very much, but from my experience with working with magnesium alloy, they tend to have pitting corrosion.

perhaps u can drop by canon to give it a shot. it is not as heavy as the 7D and the seams are not so nice since its not a mag alloy body. but the tactile feel on the body is better than the xxxD. the buttons is similar to the xxxD series though and i don't really like that part.

7D currently selling around $2250-$2350+.... Most of the xxD series camera goes around $1899-1999+...

If the price is too near to 7D's price.... why get 60D at all ??

Bro, EOS 7D is selling at $2,170 with gst for cash price.

Therefore, the price of EOS 60D is priced under $1,500 which is true from the SRP different of $600++ from EOS 7D.

1439 after GST is quite good leh.. I was thinking this price range :D

Now, that looks like a sensible starting price... But I suspect it may drop further to $1300 sooner than later... depending on how Nikon Singapore price their D7000.

I still prefer the size/weight of my 450D. But one look through the 7D viewfinder is enough to convince me to keep my 7D. :bsmilie:

Well definitely 7D being a high end camera it has perks such as a 100% viewfinder. I find 7D too heavy for me. But the customizability is AMAZING.

One question though. Now the 60D has inherited the 7D master/slave flash thingy. My question is can i have my 430EXII off camera and use the 60D flash to trigger both flashes to fire? Is that how it works?

Set your 430EX as a slave unit. Use your built-in flash to fire the slave unit through wireless transmission. Both built-in and 430EX will be fired. Even if you disable the built-in flash from firing, it will still fire a small output of flash to control the slave unit.

Wow cool.. Another reason for me to get the 60D... haha. Thanks ! ;)

That's one of good reasons to buy a EOS 60D if 7D is out of your budget. EOS 60D has inherent many of the features of the EOS 7D.

But how impotant is the micro adjust? I heard 50D has this feature..

Sad to say that this feature is not incorporated in the EOS 60D. This is how Canon segments the market. :(

This feature is useful if any of your lenses exhibit front or back focusing issues. Instead of sending it to the service centre to calibrate, you can do it at your own convenient time. Having said that, is this an important consideration for you? If the answer is yes, then you are better off getting the EOS 7D. Forget about the 50D even though it is much cheaper unless you are really on a tight budget.

I bought the 60D for my brother last night. My first impression, very light with good form factors and feels comfortable in my hands, not too small like the xxxD and not too heavy like the xD but sure feels different from the xD & xxD. Played around with the kit lens and boy, it takes really beautiful photos by looking at the LCD. Should be ideal for travels with 18-55IS and maybe one or two specialty lens. Tested it with my Zeiss 85f1.4, nice and excellent color rendition. Should be an excellent all purpose camera, even for manual focus lenses.
