60D 600D ?

Hi all, will be getting a DSLR soon. Im still deciding between 60D and 600D.

In what circumstances will we see a vast difference between the quality of photo produced by the 2 camera stated? I do not intend to enlarge much photos. Most of the photos I take will be stored online.

Next, I also cannot decide which kit lens to purchase with it.

I do not really understand the when I would need a 135 or 200 versus a 55.

Aside from those daily candid shots or events, I'll probably be using it to take close up shots of animals, wide angled landscape photos. I'm not into taking photos of people. In short, I want to get a lens that will be good enough for most purpose. Perhaps not excellent, but enough for a entry photographer like me. I was thinking of getting the 200, but I do not know if I actually will need it.

Can someone here advise or reason why I should get which lens and camera? I do not want to rush into the decision.

I am using a Canon 600D but regretted not getting the 18-135 lens. 60D batt last longer, other than that, everything are similar to 600d. This is what I feel. I think you get the Eos 600d with 135..

What research have you done so far? It's very easy to find comparisons of the feature set of these cameras. FYI, they use the same sensor - Canon just sticks the same sensor in different bodies.

Why only those 2? Why not nikon, sony, pentax, olympus, etc?

Well for a starter... 600D is an entry level camera and 60D is a semi-pro camera.

Like what Rashae said, both cameras shared the same sensors and so their image quality should be very close to each other. However you should also look at the handling of each camera... the 600D is a bit smaller than the 60D, and is lighter too. However for some people, smaller doesn't exactly means better... I for one would not get the 600D because I find the grip design a bit too small for my big hands.

Although both 60D and 600D shared the same numbers of focus points, the 60D had 9 cross type focus points while 600D only had 1... and cross type focus point is more sensitive and accurate... however I find that a non-issue, because for me, I only use the center focus point (for it might be important for many other people).

Also 60D had two dials... and that would make controlling different functions easier and quicker...

So in the end, it would be good for you to go down to the shops and have a feel of them.

If I were you, I'd take the 600D.

Like the others, I'd recommend you go to the shops to at least hold the cameras before making the decision. The 600D felt too small in my hands while the 60D feels just right. Plus eventually if you get the heavy lenses, the 600D will feel more unbalanced because it's so light.

Either is capable of making good pictures though. As for the kit lens, I won't get either one.

Just to clarify, not only Canon do that. Sony is also sticking same sensor into different bodies too.

Yes that's correct, they also stick it into the NEX 7, and the same Sony sensor is in the A580, A55, Pentax K-5, Nikon D7000, the new Ricoh module, etc.

The point is, he was asking which of the 2 will give better image quality - so my answer is "neither, it will be the same".

Well. for me, 600D.

I tried 60D but wasn't very comfortable with it. I regretted not getting the 18-135 lens 18-55 is sufficient for most of my stuff but... 135 will make things even better
So do think carefully when ya choosing your kit!

Me too. I regretted not getting 18-135. Its better to have a longer focal length from the start for newbies. Can shoot more things.

Wanted to buy a 600D at pc fair last March, tested the 60D at the counter, felt better at hand. Changed mind and want to buy the 60D but the salesboy busy with lunch. Ended with 600D because rushing time.

Bought the 18-135, but sold it after a while because bitten by the L-bugs. 18-135 is neither here nor there, if I bought the 18-200 I will keep it as travel lens.

Will buy a 60D kit III if I read more before I purchased the 600D that time. The price gap of the bodies is only 150 or 200 RRP last March. Now I think its about 400++ RRP difference?

To TS, off topic a bit. I am in the same position. But in between 60d and 600d, I have placed Nikon d5100.

Do read up about it and you may have additional option if you are leaning towards 600d route.

The 18-135 is much better than the 18-55. It has more reach and is way sharper. The mount is metallic. The IS is more reliable.

it's still a kit lens though so dont sweat it too much XD out of all the kit lenses 18-200 is the most functional imo. but that doesnt mean everyone wants it XD just think of whether you need the extra focal length and if you dont 18-55 can perform as well as any other lens. although the 3.5-5.6 causes alot of limitations XD

get a cheap 50mm f1.8 start having fun with that prime lens first + your kit lens

My advise would be... get the kit lens (18-55mm) and a 55-250mm lens which will then cover most of your needs... unless you want specialise genre of photography like macro, etc... and I believe that is the cheapest option you could go before diving into a hobby that you might not keep.

600D for me since functions are almost similar but price difference would allow getting a couple of kit lenses - agree with Rhino123 that the 18-55 and 55-250 would be great complements for a beginner to understand subject material and shooting styles before getting anything else.
