5D problem with old lense

When i first mount the lense on the body, it will hang every first shot.
On and off the camera then it will be ok for the whole day.
The first shot pic is saved into the card but will be a total dark one.

Put back to dry cabinet, take out some other day. The problem come bk again.
It happen when i use 50mmf1.7 and the beercan.

Nothing wrong when use the kit lense.

Anyone having the same problem.

Nope. All my lenses, including the 50mmf1.7 and beercan, work without problems from the first shot.

Quite a few people experience this "1st shot brank" problem after some time didn't make use of the camera, but not always. Change shutter did solve the problem during warranty time, but now the problem come back again, so when you bring you camera out, better just shoot one test shot just to clear this problem, but I always too lazy or forgotten

mine not just first shot blank but oso hang. have to off and on again.
my warranty card still unfilled, is there a "expiry" for the unfilled warranty card.

Have used old lens from Minolta and Sigma. No problem with the KM5D. The first dark shot problem is common. If you used your cam often, like once every two days, the problem is less likely to happen.

For your old lens, you may want to try cleaning the electrical contact at the lens and see if it help.

its nothing to do with the lens. this is a known - and tolerated - problem with the 5D. i've got loads of AF and MF lenses and i've tried all combinations. its basically the camera.

Hi ... I got the same problem but never thought it could be bcos of the lens or the cam!

You see I have no problems with my 5D all this while until I bought my new Transcend 4GB x120 CF recently.

Then (not all instances) but sometimes for the first frame of the CF card ... shoot, shutter released, but seems to take a longer while to write, then when check CF, one totally black frame! Off then on again and thereafter no more problems even until I fill the 4GB .... until I erase the card, and then sometimes for the first frame, it happens again:sweat:

that sounds very interesting! i've only used kingston, i have the old orange tab 1gb, crapo blu tab elite pro and the re-badged orange ones (with flower motif now). haven't tried the last one on my 5d but all are fine on the 7d. got to get my cam back and try it with the rebadged cfs and see if the problem goes away. my 5d started ok and all along i was using the old orange kingstons, then one day the problem just started - not sure if it was when i started using the elite pros, but i do recall activating the ccd cleaning option for the first time just before the nonsense began.

Alot of people face the same problem.
Basically the camera is telling you to use it everyday! :thumbsup:
Once you keep it for few days, it will hang :thumbsd:

i use 1GB kingston 80x and transcend 2GB 120x.. sama sama.. problem occurs on both card.

if just blank shot not so big deal.. but hang the camera.. a bit sianz.. have to off and on..

sometimes the camera will unable to detect the lens like that.. the autofocus seems not to be working until i unlock and lock it back the lens again... anyone experience such problem before?

i encountered that when I first bought it and use it under the below 0 degree.. show me the no lense msg.. but then it works again when i detach the lense and lock it bk.

when i on & off the 5D, the pic was taken. no issues after that. and it was a consecutive usage kind of scenario (was shooting constantly for the whole day, then at night i was testing the flash exposure, the "err" happened)
havent encountered that blank shot problem before though...

i get a combination (ERR always appears in the viewfinder) and most of the time the shot is blank. but it doesn't happen twice in an outing. only over a day or so but i haven't been able to pinpoint that to a specific pattern...

Hmmm... For my 5D I do get the black 1st shot problem on & off when it's not in used for some time, & oso some occasional hangs when the batt gets a bit warm (I use 3rd party batt most of the time, not sure if it's due to that)... but so far nvr encounter any problems with any of my 3 old lenses -> 50mm F1.7 / beer can / 100mm macro...

As for CF card, I use the old Kingston orange label, SanDisk Ultra II & Lexar Pro 80x... no issues with any of them, juz tt sometimes I notice the cam will get a bit warmer (if I leave the batt in cam when not in use, & the batt juice dries up after a short time) than usual when I switch between cards...
