Since Nikon has openly expressed interest in launching a new concept camera this year, Canon won't be far behind.
Coming back to the 5D3, if Canon decides to launch a FF mirrorless DSLR with fast contrast based AF, I will seriously take a close look at it. Light-weight, no more big heavy pentaprisms. Bid adieu to front/back focusing issues. What's not to like?
But that won't happen at least for the next few years.

5D series will never interfere with 1D series. You want fast accurate AF with fast FPS? get a 1Dif 5dmk3 is true then Canon will have a loss on their 1D series

what do you need from a 5d3 that a 5d2 cannot provide?
I honestly dont think that Canon will improve much on the 5D series that will greatly increase its versatility over the current 5Dm2. The 5D series was meant to be a full frame camera primarily for landscape and portraiture work. I doubt there will be much improvement in terms of AF speed or FPS.
If you want a full frame camera that's ideal for fast action work which is fast in AF speed and FPS, then the 1Ds series is out there for you
Really? You think the 5D2's ancient 9 point AF system is good enough that they won't improve on it? And 3.9FPS is good enough? What is Canon going to do? Sit there and do nothing while Nikon, Pentax, Sony and the rest blow past it and take away all its market share?
1Ds? How fast can you shoot with the 1Ds? Perhaps you mean the 1D.

Then how come the 17-55 and the 18-55 have IS? Are you speaking on behalf of the video making crowd? They sure would appreciate IS on their lenses.

If there is a Mark IV for the 1D, why can't there be one for 5D? If the xxD series are named like the 1D series, we would be up to 10D Mark V by now. What do you expect Canon to do? Stop R&D new products once they perfected all their offerings then just sell the same products year after year? How long will they last? Absolutely

DSLR is hitting a technological dead end sooner than most would think. Mirrorless digicam that hits frame rate of 30-60fps at decent resolution is already available in the market. Obsoleting the mechanical SLR component will hence complete the digital revolution.
AF capability and the date throughput rate could catch up with the demand of super-high fps very quickly as they are associated with micro-chip technology and hence subjected to Moore's Law.

but the thing is bayer's sensor technology is reaching its limit.
Technology limitations will not be a barrier for long as there will be creative way to work around it as human ingenuity (and the economic motivation) had long proven thrive, but I think there are a few practical considerations other then technology limitations.
1. File size is getting pretty tiring to manage as the resolutions goes up,
2. Tie to that, I wouldn't want to worry about 20,000 full resolution 20MB pict from the 30fps, unless I have 50 assistants to help me sort and edit them,
3. Limitation of existing lens ability to out resolve sensor resolutions, which will make the improvement less meaningful
4. High ISO capabilities is not accompany with corresponding improvement in AF speed improvement at low light, so yeah we can practically shoot noise free but out of focus photo in the dark,

Hardly. If you take the 7D's pixel density and spread it across a full frame sensor you get a 46 megapixel FF sensor. That is probably 2 to 3 generations away (i.e. 1Ds Mark V or Mark VI resolution).
Hard to implement phase-detect autofocus if you cannot have any beam splitter or optical prisms in the light path direct light onto the AF sensors. I could see a Pellix mirror (like the EOS 1n RS) to hit 30 fps with full metering and AF though.
Let's hope the one would be announced soon. Got a couple of friends are actually giving another chance for canon to announce something better before they steer their ship over to Nikon.
But what is the measure of betterment I've absolutely no clue...
The next cameras are probably the 60D and the 1Ds Mark IV. I just don't see Canon announcing a 5D Mark III ahead of their flagship FF camera.
