5D Mirror Drop Out

For single shot, flip up the mirror is no doubt. This is because in SLR, TTL is used.

For burst mode, just wondering after 1st shoot (mirror is locked), why not just holding up the mirror and using electronics shutter ? This can reduce the mirror flip up/down times and prolong the life.

Unless in current burst mode, TTL still need to work and mirror must goes back to normal position.

A silly question, maybe.

Bcoz the photographer needs to see what's going on and move the camera/focus point according.

Understand that. In the burst mode also can see clearly ? :)

Guys... I too face this problem . Mirror fall out.
If u still need to shoot using that camera or you don`t have back-up camera pls consider my advice... bring along a scissors and masking tape or gaffer tape with you while shooting. When time up for the mirror ,you guys know what the usage of this.
;)
Mayb Canon trying the skill of the photographer to remedy their problem.....5K include self experiment on your camera...hehehe.That the package ya.:thumbsd:

wah can't believe the quality control is so bad.. hmmm
was considering if have the cash to get this cam but after hearing all the complaints :o

The mirror was held in place initially by a couple of small droplets of glue. but after the fix, i notice a really generous spread (!) of glue was applied under the mirror.

u guys are really scaring me... is canon QC really that bad recently??? there is so many issues with canon QC nowadays, from 5D mirror drop out, to 1dmkiii spoiling the moment it is taken out brand new from the box...

wat the heck is happening to canon ???????

I'll be traveling on an 18 day trip to China in about 10 days time with a 5D. Is there any way to ensure that I won't face this problem during my trip? My poor trip leader had his mirror fall off his 5D on the very first shoot of our 12 day trip earlier this year. Luckily he had a backup of a 10D but what a let down. I'll really do anything to make sure this problem doesn't arise with me. My 5D is only about 4 months old but has Canon fixed this problem? (I'll be renting a 20D as a backup for this trip in case of a similar problem!)

bring superglue?

the superb high iso performance and full frame is enough to tempt me away from the N camp
but on a 2nd though

I have shot 3 weddings and 2 overseas tours with my 5D and no mirror fall out has happened.

The thing is when a few people mention it, it seems as if all 5D cams have this problem.

It is an extremely good camera. But it is to be used more gently than a 1-series, weather -wise.

I just had my 5D checked thoroughly by Canon (Thailand) when I was there in early July and given a clean bill of health, after about 7K or so shutter. They also cleaned my entire viewfinder and sensor...now it's spotless.

He...he...he...Crossing my finger, hope that mine will not have the same problem as yours. Good thing you remind us what to have if the problem occurs:thumbsup:

Agree  as I say.. before any important assignment... just do a "medical checkup" :) 5D is a gem... loving it everyday

I sold my 30d today and also planning on selling 400D and use both monies and get 5D. Now dont know if I should bother :what:

Anyone have any idea whether new sets have this problem corrected? I thought of either buying from HK or from Oriental Photo.

Cheers;)

I am finding out that 95% of all my photography is all landscape and birds! So keeping a 20D for the birds and getting a 5D for the landscape.

What is the biggest difference you notcied when you switched from a crop factor body to FF, was it that you could get wider shots, or better quality?

If I DO get the 5D, I am thinking of buying a Sigma 12-24 AND a Canon 17-40. And nothing else, I already have a 70-200f2.8. Do these lenses 12-24 and 17-40 compliment each other or overkill?

Cheers:)

And a Zenitar fisheye lens as well ;)

12-24 isn't it too wide for FF? Haven't tried b4.. but I guess vignetting will be bad at this range
