5D III street price for body or kit set

Hey man, which outlet? I'm looking at the website now and i assume it's the Holland Village (AV/ Cameras / IT / Gadgets) central? Thanks for the heads up anyway!

IDK, I know it through a PM on day 1 of launch, cos I asked one bro's fav shop and his special price, and thru the convo was being advised Parislk is going to get cleaned.
You can try to call, but not sure of the chances. When day 1 started, the popular shops were wiped and some forum bros suggested Parisilk too. Everyone ran around the island but to no avail. Some desperate one even tried to haggle with Harvey Norman as some bros managed to haggle with them and bought it at "street price".

As you can see.. it's very very hot. Although Canon did not admit it, I guessed it through my convo with their staff that they intentionally bring in limited stock for first batch to gauge interest as the price is high compared to 5D2. If good interest, order more for 2nd batch.

I learn from one of the authorized dealers that 2nd batch MAY be in, in maybe 2 weeks time. Not a confirmed news though.

Bro Holland V is not "Ulu". Go to the one which is really "inconvenience" for u as well as for others. :)

the above list are the top favorites lah, don't need go one! :bsmilie:

I still remember I got mine from Alan.. was there at Funan zhun zhun 10:30am when they open shop. by 10:45am, they are wiped. they de-kitted ALL their kit sets and sold as body, and yes, wiped in 15mins time :bsmilie:

IDK, I can help you ask those authorized dealers at lucky plaza shops when I pass there (I pass there often, GF works at Paragon Medical), sometimes they can be cheaper than the expensive Cathay Photo, just whether you want to take or not :bsmilie:

LOL! 5D Mark III.. Gone in 15 mins. That's epic.

I'll be heading out to scout for more shop, including Parisilk (will call them first before even bother coming down)

Lucky plaza? You sure it's safe there man? From all the stories I've heard, i wouldn't even dare to step in the building, unless am eating pizza hut. Haha. But surprisingly, I bought a particular camera strap which i wanted, retailing about $70+ at canon but turned out somehow the uncle sold me off for $30+ only, it was a really great deal and honestly it wasn't those "no brand" strap, a special collaboration with an artist. I just felt that the camera strap was placed at the wrong place and it couldn't sell off so that's why he gave me a discounted price just to clear it. Haha.

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing for awhile now like some of the shop mentioned that it may be arriving in one or two weeks time. Kudos to Canon for their marketing strategy. Keep up with something like this and for future product, i can foresee the tendency of people queueing up for overnight like the new iPad.

Not that I am defending canon, but compared to nikon in their d800 and previous other launch, I think canon did a great job this time round. They had enough stock for the real "canon fanatics". Most, if not all, were able to just walk in to a shop to get the 5d3 on the day before launch, without any form of pre-order or deposit. Kit were still available even after the launch.

On the other hand, the nikon d800 launch was...well...oh wait a min, the d800 was launched?:bsmilie:

Well, you never try, you never know. Yes, Lucky Plaza's reputation is real freaking bad, but you may find good deals there, really. Just be EXTRA EXTRA careful if you decide to go there.

I've bought my 580EX II, local set at about $600. Cheap and good deal from Aik Seng Photo. However, do note that this shop quote without GST and has surcharge if you pay by card. Most of their products' pricing isn't that competitive, but sometimes there are good deal.

I've bought a BG-E6 from Southern Cross from Lucky Plaza too. It was like $5 cheaper than Cathay Photo, and they don't charge me extra for CC payment. The salesman was helpful - I went there without my 5D2, he borrowed me their 5D2 to test the BG-E6.

Both items I've bought from there are genuine local copies with no defects. Do lots of homework and play extra caution if you venture there :)

IDK anything about Nikon.. but I thought I've seen someone mentioning seeing someone with D800 at the Helix Bridge last week?

Buuuuuurrrrnnnnnnn.

@avsquare
The D800 was out last week but the numbers were so limited, it might as well not be launched at all. I wager there are more D4 owners than D800 ones now.

ahh I see... I wonder why make it so limited? don't they want the business? or they don't have enough confidence of the reception of D800? :dunno:

Ya, d800 had very limited stock. Like 1-2 pieces per shop. Some even none.

I am just speculating, but the reason could be...

1. Nikon didn't expect 5d iii to be priced at a much higher price with no major "wow" improvement. Now they are holding back their stock to find a reason to raise price, since the 12mp->36mp is a breakthrough...I think europe already had their price hike...
2. Nikon is still recovering from the flood.

If 12MP to 36MP is the "wow" factor for D800, I think it's abit sad comapred to 5D3. I'm not trying to be biased - the AF improvement is long due for 5D series, many Canon users complained about it, and the improvements for 5D3 is what Canon users are asking for. Yes, not exactly something new or wow, but something long due for, and it's given.

But.. 36MP, did that many Nikon users asked for this? Not sure what's on the Nikon camp, I can't speak on behalf of them.. but it's more like Nikon luring MF users to come to their camp. I think the D4 was better done :bsmilie:

Hello there,

I am a fan of Canon from across the bridge and poisoned to get 5 DMK3 now. In JB, the cheapest I was offered is RM10,500 (body) and it is around SGD 4,375+-. It sounds cheaper to buy in Singapore based on the prices discussed in this thread.

What will be the warranty period for this unit bought in Singapore?

I just called Parisilk, a lady attended my phone call and she said all the stock are coming this friday, and when i ask if there's any stock for any other outlet, she said no.

"this friday.."

"this friday.."

"this friday.."

"this friday.."

kinda hard to believe on that.

So I went down to Parisilk today and asked the gentlemen over there, they said it would be coming next week or so, "No Confirmation".

I was disappointed but at least it was a honest reply rather earlier on the phone with the lady, she said this friday? Yeah right.

Anyway, i asked whether i could do a deposit and they don't accept it.

Yesterday someone told me to try Song Brother at Sim Lim.

Despite knowing their reputation, while on my way. I dropped by there.

There was a PRC sales girl on the counter, she quoted me $4.6k and after i said nevermind, another sales man came and offered me $43???. I said alright then i'll take it but he said after GST, the total would be $4600 and i could do a tax refund at the airport? My face went totally black and i said, "dude i'm not a foreign."

For those who are still trying their luck getting street price for the camera this week, all the best. I'm done with all my scouting. The best thing to do right now is just wait.
