It should fit... The hotshoe of the 1DMk III looks the same as the normal cameras...
prices have not been released yet.... but it's gonna be expensive with weather sealing and all...
seriously if u're using a 30D or 400D then might as well get the old version coz it'll be cheaper.. ur camera isn't weather-sealed, not much point getting a weather-sealed flash... the features are about the same... just slightly faster recycling which i'm sure u'd be ok with...

Well, I'm looking in the current 580EX model, but if the new one is going to be released soon, and almost the same price, why not wait....
Hmmm..Unless the price is definitely going to be much more, then, I'll get the 580 EX instead of wait, but no news so far...

Since you are looking, then wait to see if it launch price is around 580EX. Guts feeling is it gonna be @ about the launch price of 580EX.
It should be designed to benefits the latest model with downward compatible to the earlier model. So if you are not using IDSMkIII, then consider 580EX if you need it immediately.
Definitely by this year.
All current Canon flash system hotshoe mount are the same.
The 580EX II is specially launched in conjunction with the 1D Mk III, similar to 430EX with 5D last year.
Was tinking around that line too.. ANy idea how much the 580EX was released at??? Maybe they'll be even discontinuing the EX.
