550 D or 60 D

aperture cant be accessed directly? just turn the finger dial at Av mode? no?

focus point cant be directly set? even the 350D can do so leh.

The best way to decide is to go to the Canon showroom at Vivocity and try taking some pictures with both cameras, back-to-back. Go for whichever camera that feels more comfortable (i.e. fingers not cramped up or over-stretched, not too heavy, etc.) The $200+ price difference is not very significant over the entire period of ownership, but the ergonomics are.

ts already mention about low budget and IQ. Why you 60d guys mention about ergonomics? Basically TS already have the answer.

Hi Friends
For a low budget buyer which camera is better in terms of picture quality ?

Thanks

Low budget then just get the 550D. The awards it won is no fluke...:) Camera quality is about the same, but I personally feel the 60D handles high ISO better than the 550D. I have used both extensively by the way, and that is my observation. Hope that helps.

What i meant was there is a wheel dial dedicated for setting aperture in 60D but the finger dial is used for both shutter speed and aperture in 550D. It's like having one pedal for both acceleration and brake, it feels troublesome to me...used to having two dials.

Same case for the AF point. 550D have to scroll through the other focus points clockwise (after pressing the Q button?) whereas 60D can just press on the specific AF point on the 8 point dial.

Hard to describe in words, probably like what the others said, best to try out the camera yourself at the showroom.

Hi CSer,
Do you all use the shooting mode 'Auto depth-of-field', 60D don't have this mode but 550 have it.

50D seems to have lost a lot of love, eh? It does not have video mode, and I guess that's one of the main reasons it seems.

7D was mentioned but not 50D

Few things that will make me look at the 60D (I own a 550D)

1. Top LCD screen
2. Better grip
3. Shutter sounds nicer lol. Anyone felt this affects them as well? lol
4. Better ISO performance. Also, small increment between 800 and 1600?

Things I don't bother about
1. Higher FPS. Why people need so fast for unless you are a sports photographer or your life revolves around fast moving subjects
2. Swivel LCD. Clearly a marketing tool seeing how they emphasize these in their promos and commercials. You don't see them promoting any other things?

The plus points I think are luxurious features I think I can live without as far as owning my first DSLR is concerned. But certainly worth the extra $250.

The existence of this thread simply proves that TS is doubting that "answer" you speak of. That is why we share whatever info and experience we have to help him make an informed choice.

Just a discussion to help TS with the question he posed. Don't understand why he got so worked up. :dunno:

Apologies to TS... I am also facing the same dilemma... But it wun be my first camera as I am looking for a spare body as I have a 50D already...

Reason I want a spare body is becos I find tat when I shoot events sometimes, I miss out on some photo opportunities as I have a tele lens on my camera but I am way too close to the action and changing lens is just too slow and cumbersome...

Hope to get some advice here... Thanks!

Think TS already know what he wants:

Picture Quality: Both on DIGIC 4 CMOS Sensor, only fps difference. The IQ should be more or less about the same.

Low Budget: 550D is cheaper than 60D for sure! The swirly screen looks damn interesting though, and the mechanical shutter!! argh~
