SPEED
Actually if you REALLY ask me.. I dont think it is alot of difference from f1.1 to f1.4... Being a film user of course f0.3 is not critical to me to be frank.

BUILT
In terms of built and weight and size, I will place my bet on a used Lux E43 type 2 chrome. But if you die die want to focus 0.7m, get the E46. But I have compared the 2... I personally enjoyed the E43 alot more.

COST
Yes, Leica is always overpriced but looking at the track record. You can sell to break even or make a tiny profit if you keep it clean (already proven).

CHARACTER
Not to sound like a Leica snob, but I really enjoy the wild swirly oof they produce. Go for pre-asph for real character and asph for real modern cut. I have tried the VC 1.1. it is a good lens. Well built and light though it looks heavy (some complain of it not being heavy) but I find it is always better to be light than heavy. Wide open it is sharp and oof is smooth but is "summicron" kind of smooth if you know what I mean.. Not the best most people will say and only this point I find it true. Like Zeiss planar 50mm / Summicron 50mm kind of bokeh if you really must compare.

OTHERS
Canon f0.95 is big and heavy, I have it too and hardly use it but only for special occasions... it spots a 72mm filter and covers half your window. So dont try...

Hexanon 50mm f1.2 is big also spotting a 62mm filter size. Superbly built (so far the best I've seen on Japanese lenses). Modern optics and coating BUT ultra smooth bokeh. If you really must try something more than f1.4, this is it.

after reading all of the above, i think that i'd be leaning towards a the very capable summicron... ;)

heh.. dug around CS and found this old thread. currently, i have taken the plunge and gotten myself an old bessa R2M and 35/1.4 classic. i would like to ask if getting the nokton 50/1.1 is redundant since i've already got the 35mm? i know probably the slightly difference in f-stop won't make much of a difference. but i do like the view of a 50mm in SLRs. :p

I think they won't be redundant. The 50mm f1.1 will have a different perspective.

How about 50mm summilux ASPH, 75mm summilux and 75mm summicron. Which lens would you prefer?

My favourite 2 lenses are: Summilux 75mm pre-asph F1.4, and Summilux 50mm F1.4 pre-asph.

Really nice shots by third3rdwheel, I like the sharpness and 3D feel of the pictures...one can almost smell the air there...I can't get the same kind of clarity in my shots

Leica has 5 Lux lenses altogether (2 being very recent): 21mm Lux, 24mm Lux, 35mm Lux, 50mm Lux and 75mm Lux.

Good lineage, and the 50 Lux is a stunner (any version).

Hi,

First pic shot with M9 with Summilux 75mm F1.4 pre-asph

Second pic shot with MP with Summilux 50mm F1.4 pre-asph version 2.

No sharpening on photoshop. :D

I've been looking around Flickr and noticed some impressive jaw dropping shots by the Nokton 1.1 by this japanese photographer

These 2 pictures in particular shows the bokeh power of Nokton 1.1. Very impressive lor. The bokeh is also got crazy quality. Contrary to reviews, not true that Nokton 1.1 bokeh is a dumb blur. Nokton 1.1 got its own quality, just need to see how some people use it. Wah sek, i starting to GAS for Nokton 1.1 liao.

i got mine from another CSer just last mth. it's a crazy lens... ;p

wat i love abt it is the amazing low-light performance at f1.1. it makes focusing harder tho, cos of the shallow DOF. i just back this from the lab. done on Ektar 100 with my r2m and 50/1.1. my son was lit mostly by the ipad screen. this was done very early in the morning, iirc ard 6.45am.
