I'm also consider to farm a 85mm 1.8D for my D80 n FM2

the 85mm F1.8 is a good lens. Great subject isolation, good bokeh at an affordable price. just that it's rather cropped on a DX.

sorry to hijack thread haha but just wondering is the 50mm 1.8 a good prime to start out with? cause been shooting with my d90 and 18-105 and kinda limited for night shots haha >.<

on crop sensor i'm highly recommend get the 50mm f1.8 or f1.4d or G model. It's better work on crop sensor. If the 85mm f1.8 is not that good, cause distance too far, just take the head portion. For 50mm back 5 step still can take whole of body. Why not try for 50mm in crop sensor. If FX i will prefer u to get 85mm f1.4 it's better sharpness than f1.8d.

Roaringflamer, what are you taking for night shots? 50mm is only good for portraits on a DX. do you always shoot at 50mm? is 3 more stops of light enough for your case considering u are using kit lens?

The other reason why i am thinking of 50 f1.4 over 85 f1.8 is because i can get another 1.6 stops of light in lowlight environment which is rather useful for me.

50 1.8 is cheap yet sharp, definitely a good prime to start with

if you want a FX 50mm equiv of focal length, you can also consider the 35 1.8 for your crop d90. also sharp and very fast

too itch, got the 50 1.4 today. played with it for a while, seems like it suits my needs better! =)

so D5000 starting point going for 50mm 1.8D? it don have auto focus right? 1.4G much expensive~

yes no autofocus on a D5000 body. Not sure if manual focussing is difficult as the DOF is rather shallow. slightly out and the image might be blur.

hmm...what mean? means image ez get blur?hmm

Can always turn on the 'rangefinder display' to get precise manual focusing.
