of coz they are different in terms of aperture, but the fact is i have seen many sold 50mm after getting even 17-55mm f2.8, so im asking for their comments....

On my end,

I would only sell the 50mm f1.8 if I had bought a 50mm f1.4. Then again, I may keep it for reverse mounting to be a cheap macro.

The point is, a prime would almost always be better than a zoom lens in terms of light availability (for better, faster focusing) and anyway the AFS 200VR costs more than 2 times the amount for the AFS 70-200VR (just by RRP alone $8100 vs $3800)

Forget the f/1.4 unless you do lowlight shooting. Else no point buying f/1.4.

50mm 1.8D is the way to go...1.8 bokeh is good enough liao =)

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 better built..... jus go n compare each lens side by side...
You will know wat I meant....

I own a 50mm f/1.8...I used it as a walk around lens...very reliable and work well even at low light situation.... n good for potraiture...does the job well.

You will not regret having one....

even if there is, it is going to be expensive and not easy to focus due to it's extreme shallow DOF.

Of course, that does not means that picture quality is bad.

Its the grade of the plastic that we're talking here.
