50D user....come in!!!

Just bought a 50D for wife for our anniversary...bought at TK Photo,,,,$1800 cash (credit card add 2%)...comes with 2 4GB CF card, 18-55mm kit lens, 1 canon Slingbag n one user guide book

I am very new to all the DSLR, cos was a compact camera user...wife used to own a Minolta SLR (not digital) before marriage, so bought one DSLR for her....she takes better pictures ...

just wondering how does ur wife find the handling and feell of the 50D, i'm a guy and my hands quite big but i find the feel and the handling of 50D a bit too chunky, whereas anything in the xxxD series (eg. 450D, 500D) feels too small and light. that's the reason why i'm holding back on the 50D. on the other hand i really like the feel of the Nikon D90 and am leaning towards that altough i have a brand affinity for canon... haiz dilemma. anyone else like me?

xxxD and xxxxD series feel very plasticky IMO.. i was using 400D and i cant stand the stupid small grip so i changed to 50D lolz.. FPS, ISO control makes a lot of difference compared to 50D and xxxD series.

I am an upgraded ..from 400D to 50D

based on my understanding (I think)
xxxxD - more like prosumer (hybrid)
xxxD - entry level, so smaller form factor
xxD - semi-pro, bigger form factor..
xD - entry level full frame
1D - pro (more for sports because of fast fps)

I think you should not compare 50D to D90. the comparison should be between D90 and 500D.

yeah now the tilt is towards the D90 based on overall feel and price...

features wise, the plus for me is the faster fps on my 50D but then i'll still have to ask myself whether i need the extra 2fps. other things like more mega pixel and higher ISO on the 50D doesn't really matter to me, and video on the D90 is a plus but not vital.

yeah i understand what u mean... i understand that in the Nikon range the D90 is targeted at the prosumer level similar to the 500D in the canon range but putting D90 and 500D side by side, i feel that the D90 should be in a slightly higher class than the 500D. (i hope i didn't offend anyone here) based on certain features and build quality wise (no need to elaborate, just personal opinion) so i've narrowed my choices to D90 and 50D, although i agree that similarly the 50D is on a higher class compared to D90.

BTW buying the body is only one consideration... you need to consider lens availability/price and also flash.. the camera body get recycled almost in less than a year. a good lens can last, many many years...

yup definitely have considered lens... flash eh not really thinking bout that but it shouldn't be a big issue...

U change camera body every year or less! wow lucky u.... is it a norm for people to "upgrade" their body so regularly :dunno:

i hope that the first DSLR body i buy will last me at least a few years or longer... that's the reason i'm considering a slightly higher end model like the 50D and D90.
