erm can u pls pls pls explain y?pls Convinces me haha^^

buy ricoh GRD 2 better :P depends what you want. I thought the 50D looked really impressive but than again D300 was equally impressive when it was launched. for me i go for D300 cus i am using NIKON haha. but truth to be told, i was actually considering a canon that time but out of stock so i ended up getting the nikon. If you ask me again it be a tough call, canon has a slight edge because no D60 D40 those sort of lens issues. BUT if D300 and 50D, i think i go for D300 for her reliability

wa really tough decision sia... haha..but the only thing i don like about NIKON is that it is being made in Thailand leh>.<

This question isnt new and you can certainly find valid pro-canon and pro-nikon arguments/debates within clubsnap.

But since im in the mood and im a Nikon user. Here's my argument :)

Why choose Nikon?

- For better flash technology. In fact, the BEST flash system yet
- For a more responsive camera. D300 is the top of the line DX format DSLR from Nikon
- Buy the MB-D10 battery grip and you can turn the D300 to a sports action camera and shoot up to 8 fps ( with a shutter speed 1/250 or faster )
- Better ergonomics. Controls are laid out more logically. In time you will find it easier to operate AFTER you've overcome the learning curve of switching from Canon

WOW... short and clear... thanks^^

Mui small advice is to wait it out a while, say a few weeks.

Read the user reviews and shopkeeper reviews as well. Which system is the most selling and which got most complains.

There is no system that is made fool proof and perfect for shooting all situations. So look into what you are going to shoot first and then decide on what to buy and not the other way around.

if i am a new user, and i am about to buy a DSLR, would u advise me to buy D300 or 50D?

both are excellent cameras but i bought my D300 over the 50D because it is a proven camera and i prefer the Nikon ergonomics and control layout. tried the 40D and hated the menu system. the lcd of the 40D goes right up to the left edge because the buttons are located below the lcd hence it is difficult to avoid touching the lcd with the left hand. also harder to reach the buttons below the lcd. i also prefer the 2 control dials of the Nikon over the wheel of the Canon which i found unnatural to rotate. best of all, you won't find a print button on any Nikon!

other than ergonomics, one of the biggest advantage of the Nikon system is that all FF Nikons will be able to auto-crop and mount a DX lens. For Canon, you will have to dispose of your EFS lenses when you eventually go FF.

wow...from what u guys say, loooks like i don wan get NIKON oso cannot sia..haha

you DID post in the Nikon forum after all.

a point of note. 50D or D300 is a question many people are asking. in many aspects they are similar.

Do consider lenses as well, you can get great iso performance from a Nikon, but you cant use any L primes. you can use L primes with a Canon, but you sacrifice the great wide angles that nikon makes.

buy a brand that FITS your style of shooting. NOT based on what people are saying.

i shoot landscape and low light on a cropped camera.

i go for a canon due to the 10-22. and i dont need high ISOs, i use Fast primes for my low light. Nikon (iirc) does not have an auto 35/1.4, while the 35L is an excellent lense

i hope you know what you want to shoot, because deciding which to buy based on camera performance alone isnt too good an idea.:D

Good luck and happy shooting!

Thanks for all the advise..
I have came across a few professionals, they all switch from EOS to Nikron , mostly due to the flash(Which I had somehow same experience).
It is pain to switch...:dunno:
I will be doing more home work , might make a decision befor the coming Dec fair..
Still very new in Nikron Lens, what does the VR etc..stand for??

Thanks guy..

VR=vibration reduction ... aka IS (Image Stabilisation for Canon)

What is AF and AF-S? IF-ED? DX?

I believe a quick search on Nikon websites should give you a direct answer.

Can... It's your money afterall.. Don't let others teach you how to spend your money. You spend it yourself the way you like it. ;p

I have been a Nikon user for 20 years now, I don't think I'll ever get used to the UI of other systems. So no matter how much better people claim other systems to be, I'll only buy what I'm comfortable with because I'm the one using it.

****, i didnt realise this is in the Nikon subforum. Surfed too fast to see header, so plz dont flame me as a troll :o

Anyway, i'll say wait for the D300X or the successor so that the features can at least match up to the 50D, nevermind whether it's necessity or candies.

wah, you said Canon camera until so good, might as well ask TS to wait for D350, and than D400, or wait for D450, also D500, how about D550, maybe D600...........

eh, i thought the D300 have a better feature set than the 50D?? (e.g. 51 points af...)

Some, yes. But wait for Nikon's version of the AF tweaking for example and a MP bump. D300 was better than the 40D back then prior to the 50D launch.

Im curious, will D300X/D400 have movie recording functions? Canon fails to include it in the 50D

If $$$$ is not a problem, adopt 2 system may be the best option for you.(Commanders of C and N cams, wow , the feeling must be very good ).:)

Frankly speaking, adopting 2 system does come to my mind, especially after the announcement of 5DMK2 ;p
