50D or 7D

One question that's has always been on my mind since 7D's launch is its pixel density.
The 50D's pixel density of 4.5mp/cmsq has been known to suffer from quite a bit of pixel noise problem (especially at high ISO setting) and now the 7d is toting a 5.4mp/cmsq pixel density.....will it suffers the from the same problem?

Is the claim new 18mp sensor able to overcome the problem?

Would very much like to here user's observation especially those whose has experience in using both the 50D and 7D.

This Little by little is a bad virus :P

7D anytime..... at least it will keep you hang on as many features are quite advance (better than 5DII ;p)

I will not said that. As Canon already mentioned, 7D is pitched just below 5DM2. ;p Clearly better 7D is better than 50D of course. The only draw back I observed is that the AF is still slower than 5DM2 and of course cannot compare to 1D series. How I know? - Tested the speed of AF using 7D, 5DM2 and 1DM3 .. no offense to those owning 7D but that is the true fact. ;)

7D's high iso noise performance is one of the best despite it's higher pixel density over the 50D. Each new camera will have newer technologies and manufacturing processes so you can't really compare noise performance based solely on pixel density anymore. I can't give you a 50D vs 7D comparison because I don't have a 50D, but I'm sure there are plenty of test shots from both cameras available online if you look for them.

No offense taken.. I've had all 3 cameras at one point in time or another. 1D3 is definitely the fastest, but the 7D's AF is faster than the 5D2 in real world use especially in fast dynamic scenes. Testing in static controlled "lab" conditions does not give a true picture as people seldom shoot in test conditions except maybe for commercial product shoot. At the end of the day, every camera has a specific market/use. The best camera is one that fits your use. I sold the 1D3 not because it's any bit a lesser camera, but because I found the 5D2 fits my needs the best.

I oli go thru 1st and the last page of this thread, reliase that no one mentioned that 7d got wireless flash feature which is a cool thing, I belive 50d dun have right?

Believe it or not 7d release actually affected the sale of 5d2 a little, so I in see why 50d sales not affected

I believe 7D is the first one to have amongst all canon dslr

coming from Olympus E3 user, this wireless flash is a big thing... I have tested, wireless TTL on 7D work well and accurate.

Due to this wireless flash thingy, I might burn my wallet to buy more 580EXII

doesnt oly has wireless flash system too?

most of the newer Oly DSLR(even entry body) has wireless flash system...

That why i find that wireless flash is cool and big thing.

yes E3 which I previously used has wireless flash as well but only able to trigger using in-body flash.

OT a little, in-body flash usually only affect the image if shutter is slower then 1/60.

oic. i thought all brands will allow wireless control with external speedlights.

yes, usually only able to use the flashgun as slave flash not ETTL or TTL.

Another word, adjustment/exposure can only set on flashgun if using flashgun as a slave flash.

if using wireless ETTL or TTL, adjustment can be set on camera body instead which is more convenience.

pardon my england, I am a singland person...

abit confusing but are u saying u do not get full control if you are using the external flashgun? so only by using the pop up flash then you get ettl and other controls? wow.

Sorry I think i confuse you... I only refer to pop up flash... I only have 1 580EXII, no chance to try on mount Flashgun.

I cant advise on mount flash. I know body like 5d2 OR 1d series able to control wireless TTL or ETTL, on mounted flash.

i thought u are referring to olympus system. i am familiar with the canon setup.

oh.. hahaha.. what I mentioned earlier post also related to Oly system... that is how Olympus system works...

you are not able to use mounted flashgun to fire wireless TTL on olympus.

But if only non ttl slave flash, using pop up or mounted flashgun, no problem.

oh. ok. interesting. thanks for the info. :)

since the 40D onwards, the models above the xxx series are able to control an external speedlight mounted on the camera through the camera body, instead of using the flash itself. but only the 7d allows u to control offshoe canon flash guns through the popup flash.
