Haha if you say somemore I don think he'll ever post here again.

hmmmm if i had that $1800 to spend.. i will buy a 85 1.8 to complete my primes.. then i will get the 15-85 for my travels.. then i will get airtickets for a holiday with my gf...

and then go eat some sashimi and sushi~!!

So many posting and advise from members here. I wonder is he reading any of the posts here. :D

Dear all,

Thank you for responding. I'm really into portrait and landscrape photography. I'll just define myself as a noob general photographer. It's a hobby and I'M LOVIN' IT! :bsmilie:

I kinda feel that I have outgrown my camera and I FEEL it's time to upgrade. And besides, I can get a REALLY good price.

hi dekabreak, i think u should stick with your 500d. if u are into portrait and landscape, it doesnt make sense upgrading to another crop frame body. get a 5dmarkii, it is awesome.

Nice! Something to spare for gf haha.

hmmm yup its good.. but then again, i'm not moving into FF la.. don't see a need... one of my best fren is using it.. the other one is using 7d.. i'm the kuku using 500... didn't even buy 550 when it came out the same time that i got my 500 around there..

haha.. but then again.. each one has different choices to make in life..

i think TS went to look for people to buy his 500D at a REALLY good price.. ($850)... busy busy looking... and also trying to look for a 7D... he must be doing his maths to try to minimize his losses...

Acct + $850 - $2200 (7D price) = loss of $1350...

with that $1350 can buy dunno 2 or 3 nice to use lens lor.. sell his 17-85 ($450)... total $450 + $1350 = $1800...

can buy a EFS 10-22 ($900) and EF 85 1.8 ($500) and nice tripod.. and nice bag..

Don't analyse any further, later he reads this after finding a buyer, may end up as a pilot. Next thing you know another thread in the consumer's forum. Its his money, the kind bros here have shared their piece.

Seriously, i doubt the 500D body alone can fetch $820.

Dear all,

I have upgraded my body. Thanks for all the advice.

As for the Canon EOS 500D. With much consideration, my girlfriend will start photography with me. She will take over my 500D

THANKS TO ALL!!!;)

Hi Jia Long and Z Plus.

I got 7D body. Now I'm in the middle of preparing my own photography website just for photos. Just something simple from blogspot. I'm ain't a pro though. Now saving up for:

10-22
580 EXII or 430 EXII
Zoom lens. (Not sure yet)

And thanks. My girlfriend LOVES it. Even though it's 2nd hand and she's using my 50mm 1.8 for now. I'll get her a good lens for her birthday. Now she got a new female kaki wthout me knowing. I think she's waiting for me to sound that move that she wants that 500D so much.

You guys are AWESOME! Hope to see most of you soon. Can go take photos together and learn alot from you guys!! :sweatsm::sweatsm::sweatsm:

No prob, im just at the same level as you. I started only this year! haha. Good to hear that she loves it. Photography couples are cool. Way to go!

I guess so. :bsmilie:

Hi all, after reading all the suggestions, I'm not sure myself.

I'm holding a Kiss X3 (500D?) with kit lens 18-55 and 55-250. When I started 9 months ago, I was very excited and started shooting extreme sports: BMX, motorcross, Car racing and such. Over the months I got better. I dun use fancy effects with my pictures, just cropped them a bit and add saturation when necessary.

Now I reached a stage where I'm not sure if it's me or my equipments, I just can't get my result as sharp as those that I observed in magazines. I know those journalists are using pro equipments, anyway I can get closer using what I have? Let's say if I get the correct lens, will I have faster and more accurate focus? Is the focus accuracy contributed by the lens or the body? I would like to get one with faster aperture like 2.8 so I can shoot at low light with higher TV settings. I definitely dun have the dough to buy a 70-200L 2.8, that is like a dream, and I find that using an ISO of above 800 sort of noisy (the next higher is ISO 1600 in my cam). I would like to have a lens that have faster and more accurate focus capabilities that suits my application. I dun have the luxury to test different lenses cos I'm all by myself:cry:, can only rely on good bros here so I dun make too much mistakes on my decisions. Thanks in advance!

Wow first post. 55-250 is a good lens although of cos 70-200 would be a much better choice. You're taking sports, so I would like to ask if it's the subject you take out of focus or is it background, or generally the whole thing is not as sharp?

Hi Jialong, thanks for reponding, now you made me make my 2nd post.

Most of the time the events happen in late afternoon after 4.00pm, when the light starts to dim. But on good days when the light stays later, I can still maintain higher shutter speed of 1/200~1/250 or even higher. The 55-250 at 150mm or above can isolate my subject pretty well, but the pictures as a whole just aren't as sharp as I would like them to be, comparing to works I saw in publications (I'm just afraid that my eyes are spoilt now, wanting to see sharper images). I tried going nearer to the very fast moving subject, it's easier to capture better images than when I was further away from it, but there are some angles and compositions that just won't allow me to do so... that said, even the 'sharpest' image that I got so far, though not far off IMO, are still not as sharp as other works that I saw no matter how hard I tried, I'm doubting my own ability , pretty sad now. So I feel like a "frog-in-a-well", not knowing how 'wonderful' all the lenses are in the market that could help me, or did I buy a wrong camera for my intended application in the first place? Although with limitations on my X3, I'd still like to explore it's 'hidden' potential that I may not know, by attaching 'better' lenses on it maybe? I'd seriously need some advices here. Thanks a lot, man!

i would say for sports and all, the 500d may be the limiting factor, and unlike TS who wasn't really into sports, you can get a 7d if you really want to..

as for the lens.. you can still go and try.. rent a lens to try whether it will give you better results... then you will know the problem lies where...

since you already bought then have fun...

sell the 17-85 and buy a 17-55.. *the fav lens for crop and 7D... then unless you are really into landscapes i suggest you don't buy the 10-22... but spend the money on the flash, tripod etc...

but i think you have alot of money so its up to you.. haha.. have fun.. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

I would summarize by saying if possible you should get closer to your subject. Well, I normally see pple using ranges of 300mm-500mm lens for sports but, that's just my observation :)

Dear Forumers,

Wanted to upgrade my current DSLR (450D, 17-85mm) as my brother keen to takeover it to learn photography.

I shoot mostly family, church event and travelling as well. My current setting disappointed me while shooting indoor and I unwilling need to use high ISO setting to avoid blur image.

Not sure should I buy 7D or 60D to compliment with my long waiting 17-55mm F2.8. Any advice?

I don't think your body should be the one that's causing you blur images. You saying you have a lot of noise on your photos? Or is it just blurry images? Your 17-55 would be good enough for portraits and basic outdoor photos. If you are thinking of upgrading your body not due to your blur images, you have to choose if you want FF or APS-C.

I have both problems (noise and blur) whenever I shoot indoor as I have not choice but to use ISO1600 for most of my indoor activity.

I think an extenal flash will help my problem but I wanted to take this oppurtunity to upgrade the body and len (17-85 to 17-55mm) since my brother willing to take over the camera.

60D or 7D for indoor portraits and landscape?
