i went to enquire on funan HN
the guy tell mi 1399 initially ..
then he say +$1 for drybox (if i nv heard wrongly)

i told him i don need that yet ..
so he say 1299 without drybox ..
items include 2x8GB, Tripod, 3rd party batt, screen protector, bag, book

end up i went to other shop and got mine at S$1232 [Kit I]
item include 1x 8GB, bag

1399 + 1 with drybox

The package seems quite standard, except the free dry cabinet? that's really useful (if it works)

Hi all, I'm newbie here and need your advice
I'm gonna get the 500D , normally it comes with the kit with EF 18-55mm but I want the Canon EF28-105/3.5-4.5 USM lens coz I want wide angle. So I'm thinking of get the 500D body and buy the EF28-105 without take the kit with EF18-55 , is that a good choice though i need to top up more coz EF28 more expensive...
If I gotta choose between these two, which one should I get? I don't mind pay like hundred more ... is EF28 good enuf if I only have budget for one len at the moment?;p
Really need your advice ^^

I finally bought by EOS 500D last Sunday from the AudioHouse Sale in Suntec. Here's what I got

1) EOS 500D with standard 18-55 IS Lens
2) Canon Bag (part of Canon promotion)
3) Sandisk SDHC 8 GB SD Card (part of Canon Promotion)
4) EOS 500D User Guide (This is different from the manual) (part of Canon promotion)
5) 50 mm F1.8 lens (part of Canon Promotion) - Will collect today when I go for the complimentary 2 hr traning

Apart from above Audio House threw in the following
1) One tripod (Rather flimsy quality despite some German sounding name - Stein Zeiser)
2) One extra 8 GB Card (same make as the first)
3) One Sun blitz flash (Not sure how much its worth but it does work despite Camera refusing to recognize it...and boy it makes one hell of a difference over using the built-in flash!!)
3) Screen protector (Some cheapo make)
4) Cleaning kit (Some cheapo make)
5) Targus Filters (1 UV and 1 Polarizer) (This too must be rather cheap
6) One Dry box (Whatever the hell that means) - it was out of stock and I am required to collect it after 2 weeks

So one paper sounds like a great deal - right? Basically everything one needs along with the DSLR.....I just wish some of the stuff was a little better quality though. I mean I will be ashamed to put my EOS 500D on that tripod !!

PS: I am loving the camera !! I am a Rebel 2000 user (Gotta put that up for sale !!) and so I know my way around ....and even then I was struck how great is ISO 1600 on this baby :-)

I think you are confused. For wide angle, the smaller the zoom number the wider it is; 18-55mm is wider (18mm) than 28-105mm (28mm).

If you just want ultra wide angle you may consider Canon 10-22mm, if not stick with 18-55mm which is a very good walk-about range or upgrade to 18-200mm which has wide to zoom

Yah all the free gifts are cheapo. When you start doing your research on tripods, you'll realise that Stein Zeiser sell the cheapest tripods out there, and in my opinion, even flimsier than some of the China brands out there. But, as the photoshop guru Scott Kelby once said, the cheapest tripod can do a better job than the most expensive lens with IS, VR, OS ever made.

I was given the cleaning kit, and while it does a great job of cleaning my mirror and glass table, I am hesitant when it comes to putting unknown chemicals on my lenses. The blower it comes with doesn't blow any air at all either.

The filters are not bad though. even if it doesn't do a better job than other brands, it at least protects your lens from dust and prints.

Was it a dry box or dry cabinet?

Hi Guys,

I'm jumping onto the bandwagon of DSLR and pinpointed 500D as the model which i intend to purchase.

However, I'm in a dilemma on which packages to choose from :

A) 500D Body + Canon EF-S 18-200M F3.5 - 5.6 IS
B) 500D Body + Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS + EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS
C) 500D Body + EF-S 17-85mm f4.0-5.6 IS USM + EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS

I've not find out about the costing.. I want an everyday lens + a zoom len which i can use for travelling.

Kindly advise

Cheers!

Hmm, I'd get package A for travelling. I'm using an 18-200 and it's great as an everyday lens too.

Of course if you got the budget and you don't mind changing lens once in awhile, Package C looks great!
