haa, true true. You got the 50mm f1.8 from the online warranty promotion too right? It's great for portraits! So my suggestion is the next thing you should get is a zoom lens, up to 200 or 250mm.

Or, if you don't mind the barrel distortion, can get an all-rounder like Sigma's 18-200mm lens. Good for travelling so you don't have to change lens often.

was thinking about the tamron 18-270mm lens but my friend advise me to play with the current lens then only decide which lens to buy in the future ...

that is sound advice. use it till you get fustrated at the lens being unable to produce what you want. like im fustrated that i my 17-50 is too short for seminars/forums.

Then its time to upgrade.

haa, that's a good lens! Just be prepared to buy a tripod coz i think it's almost way impossible to shoot handheld after 175mm

currently using 18-55mm kit lens,
so can I use a 720nm IR filter to create IR photo with 500D?

Read the sticky thread on the IR Photography section in this forum. 500D is not listed, but I think the characteristics should be similar to 450D, i.e. need long exposure time. The same thread also lists lenses that are known to be "good" and "bad" for IR. Why don't you try and let us know. I'm curious too.

i went to enquire on funan HN
the guy tell mi 1399 initially ..
then he say +$1 for drybox (if i nv heard wrongly)

i told him i don need that yet ..
so he say 1299 without drybox ..
items include 2x8GB, Tripod, 3rd party batt, screen protector, bag, book

end up i went to other shop and got mine at S$1232 [Kit I]
item include 1x 8GB, bag
