I'm Canon EOS 500D User also , but need to ask about how to jail break my 500D body ? Is there any open firmware for this one ?

Usually 3rd party battery is higher mAH than original to give longer usage so still not so bad la.

haha, from what I heard from one shopkeeper, the mAh they print on the 3rd party battery doesn't mean anything, coz they can print whatever they want. But so far, I haven't faced any problems with 3rd party batts. I fully support =)

I use my original batt as my spare batt instead. lol.

My experience with 3rd party battery that event hough it is higher mAH, they lose charge much faster. Their lifespan also much shorter.

Bros here anyone bought the 270ex speedlite for your 500D? May I know if it is useful for beginners, someone like me occasionally shootings nature and family outings ? Is the built-in flash sufficiently for indoor shoots?

Feel that the 430/580ex are more for the pro who are into events shootings, etc.. thanks

Bought the 270 ex. Good to have a bounce flash,

Nothing is hasher and unflattering then direct flash.

Got my 500D during last SITEX at Expo. Am very new to DSLR and hope get to learn more from the experts here. No doubt the picture quality produced is so much better than compact digicamera. I think it's a good entry level SLR to start with

What you need? Depends on what you like take. I'm just as new, but I'm trying the following: Landscape, Portrait, Night, Timelapse, Fireworks

Can tell you what I have, but don't have to follow exactly, depends on taste/budget:

- Wired remote controller, for Bulb, Fireworks and night shots
- A good tripod with quick release, so as to quickly remove the camera from the tripod
- Standard kit lens (18-55) for everything under the sun, with Polariser filter to cut down reflection
- Standard Telezoom for faraway shots
- 50mm for portraits
- Flash
- And of course a bag to carry all of the above

Where to get them? Anywhere and everywhere - from Canon Link at Vivocity to Funan/Peninsular and even Sim Lim Square. Some sellers can also be found in the Mass Order forum.

Anyone know abt Tamron lens 18-270mm??

Compare to Canon 18-200mm..which one is better??

canon 18-200 has faster auto focus, tamron has further reach, but the auto focus is slow.

I bought the EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS and then realized in there is also a Canon 18-200mm. DO you guys think the latter is a better option? I have been asking myself whether I have made the right choice.

your combo is cheaper than 18-200mm. 18-200mm has some barrel distortion at 18mm(not obvious from human eyes) which is common for those wide angle with ultra zoom lens, so some people will instead take at 24mm on their 18-200mm.

other than that, 18-200 is superb all in one lens, user will not have the trouble to change lens, imagine by the time you change lens, the bird already fly away. another big plus, is the auto focus is surprisingly very fast.

on the other hand combo lens which you have enables you to travel light using 18-55, only thing is must change lens and auto focus is not as fast at 18-200.

for your info, my friend drop his lens while changing from 17-55mm to 70-200mm during his Japan trip. you have to be careful while changing lens, and take care of the lens housing when expose to open air as dust may go in.

Thanks for the advice! I see, 18-200mm is more expensive and has faster focusing except that it weights more and doesn't need lens change so often. So I guess it all depends on individual requirement.
