are you comparing the one next to 500D? 50D?

if so, that lens is a usm lens, AF is much much faster!

i was there testing 5D and 50D just now, they are alot heavier than 500D wahhaa

No, I am not comparing the 50D but just that I am a new DSLR user and so use to my Canon S3is.

Definitely slower. Even with live-view quick AF, the camera must drop down the mirror for the phase-detect AF to lock in, then raise the mirror back up. Live AF using contrast-detect (no mirror drop down) is even worse-there'll be some hunting before lock-on. Nothing beats AF through the optical viewfinder

lol..... sorry to disappoint you. if u are going to use the live view so often, i rather you just get an IXUS. ur life will be better and happier.

yeah..... it's a known fact that live view is generally slower. =)

Thanks, i guess I have to forgo my old method (using my S3IS) and learn to use view finder when I collect the 500D.

sold off my gift of 500D liaoz.. thanks.. this is by far, the fastest which i have sold my stuff in clubsnap.. ;p

so to all felllow clubsnappers, if you are very confident of your stuff and is priced to sell.. dun be afraid to be firm with your price.. no doubt, there will be lowballers and some jokers around, quoting you ridiculous prices.. just stay firm, and deal at your convenience... i am sure if your prices are reasonable, you will definitely have abundance of buyers.. i had 4 people who had smsed me at this time.... i have just sold off 10 minutes ago ;p

Try it...you'll love it (I know I do). This is how cameras are meant to be used Looking through the viewfinder cuts out all the outside distractions, allowing you to concentrate on the framing.
Not to say live view is useless of course, e.g. when shooting the NDP fireworks, I use live view, magnify the view and use quick AF to focus on the launching platform, then switch the lens AF off and leave it there ready for the actual shoot. The magnification helps greatly for precision focusing on static subjects.

Just to clarify (probably obvious ) once I've focused with live-view, I go into manual (M) mode and use bulb shutter setting for the fireworks. Use ISO 100 and F/8-F/16 (do some test shots of the first few bursts and adjust the aperture accordingly).

Hi all, I currently have a canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens that I'm thinking of selling to buy the 55-250 with IS.

Has anyone ever used both? Is there alot of difference between the IS and non-IS? I cant seem to take a good shot at max zoom without tripod. Need your expert advice!

30" is 30 sec, 1/30" is 1/30 of a sec.

btw, taking nite shot do not nessecary need very long shutter speed. i can take nice shot ard 2-10 sec

i not sure why also, maybe due to marketing strategry? Anyway u can just buy body and with other lens

kit lens is just a starter and the lens is very entry level. it is still a good general lens but if u noe wat u wanna shoot, u can carry on get other lens.

from review and test pic, IQ for 17-85mm IS USM is better
