What's the best deal in Singapore ? Which shop to buy from ?
Is it recommend to buy the EF-S 17-85mm f4.5-5.6 IS USM lens or should i
get the bundle kit with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS kit ?
What's my main concern is the f index. EF-S 17-85mm only has f4 at 17mm wide instead
of f3.5 for the EF-S 18-55mm IS kit. Therefore, it may not create enough background blur effect if i shoot.
Although i'm also interested in buying the EF-S 18-55mm f2.8 IS USM lens at a later stage.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

since you're still new. shoot with the 18-55 1st. get a feel of what u like to shoot. den invest more $$ to get the lens u need. i think the 18-55 will suit u better in terms of price tag. and its not a bad lens to begin with! this version 2 is improved!

You need to understand DOF better.
At 17mm, f3.5 and f4 do not give you DOF that differs too much.

Image quality wise, 18-55IS wins by a margin...
Zoom power... 17-85 of cos wins haha... So it'll boil down to whether you are fussy over image details or convenience... But 17-85 is really versatile... If you print your pics, you won't see much difference. But if pixel peep whole day in front of comp, then 18-55IS is more satisfying :bsmilie:
Don't be bluff by the book, it is a thin basic photography book....B5 size...(given at all EOS academy workshop for free)

The 17-85mm has very bad distortion. It has a slow max aperture and i believe the 18-55 mm IS is better value for money. Thus, id suggest u go for the 18-55 IS.
Alternatively, get the body alone + tamron 17-50mm f/2.8
