Digic III handles noise much better the Digic II, therefore you should get the same noise control as 400D but at a higher resolution.;)

Sound theory and assumption. I just hope the programmers don't mess up the signal processing algor.

Well let's not speculate and comment for the sake of commenting. We will wait for the pictures at different ISOs and compare.

Makes sense?
;)

that's what i'm waiting.
where can i get a hand of the 450D in the market now? ;p

thanks,

I am also quite interested in this particular function. ;)
But I think you can do the same by getting TC-80N3 for 40D. :)

how do you do self timed multiple shots with 40D? Ive been trying to look for it?

eh .. y do u say tat ? isnt 450d much better than 400d ? The specs seems alot better

Firstly, the 450D will definitely be a little better than the 400D, but I won't go as far to saying it's "much better" than the 400D.

Secondly, specs are specs, but the true test is when it comes to the actual image output. Since we have yet to see any samples, I will again, not go as far as saying it's "much better" than the 400D.

I bet if I took a 300D photo and a 400D photo, both shot with the same lens, and, under suitable conditions, resized and cropped them, you wouldn't be able to tell which is which.

quite right to say so.
hope to get hold of a XSi to "feel" the ergonomics and check out the IQ ..... the in-camera adjustments do sound promising.

I have difficulty telling some of my 300D photos and my 40D photos. 6MP vs 10MP, Digic I vs Digic III, 4 years apart in technology. Yes, under low light, the 40D is better. But the differences are nowhere near what people sometimes make them out to be.

Speed and handling is a totally different story.

So my view is that anyone with a 350D or 400D should not even bother to upgrade .. unless you really must have live view or just want the latest toy.

300D - if you need to speed, then upgrade.

I made the right decision to stick to my 300D since 2004 and only got my 40D a couple of months back. I have a friend with a 4 year old D70 and I said "time to upgrade" and he said "I will use it until it dies on me".....

 well said. Agree :sweatsm: No point upgrading 1.6x to 1.6x :p Upgrade to FF :bsmilie:

bigger grip & bigger viewfinder, lesser reason to get 30D/40D.
SD card, cannot use old CF as spares.
functions for the ^,V,<,> buttons different too.
battery grip is BG-E5, while the 350D used BG-E3.

But that's not what Russ said.

He talked about a 300D to 40D upgrade (1.6x to 1.6x). Sure, a move from 1.6x to FF makes sense to some, but for those who (like me ;)) have a 10-22mm and 18-55mm IS EF-S, we'll probably stick to 1.6x sensors. This is especially so if newer EF-S lenses match the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS, and cost as reasonable.

BTW, I upgraded from 350D to 40D. If IQ of the 450D is proven to be good (as good as 400D?), then a 450D might become a 2nd body to my 40D. The 350D has a happy new owner.

went SL but couldn't get to see the 450D.
is the 450D in town already?

the tyranny of "or". why not BOTH

Actually, I agree, if it can be afforded, a crop + FF pair of cameras would be wonderful!
They are both good for their respective areas of use, though it may be argued that one can do what the other can too.

But when you look at a FF pict from a 5D compared to a 'crop' pict using say the 85mm f1.8, then you realise the drastic differences in DOF effect on the subject matter at large. :dunno:

so this 450D is for entry level first time dslr users? and that 40D is for 2nd time dslr users?

umm...as the case may be, can the lens for 40D be used on 450D?

i'm just asking since some 40D owner might want to buy a 450D as backup cam. memory cards nowadays are too cheap to be a consideration anyway.:dunno:

Yes, all lenses that are used on the 40D can be used on the 450D.

Yes the 450D and 40D can take both ef and ef-s mount lenses.

yep, since all of them are using APS-C sensors (1.6x crop) they can use all EF-S and EF lenses. which means all canon lenses can be used on both the 40D and 400D/450D.
