u know, actually i don't like to disect the images like this :P once i start talking abt how i PP, i feel that the illusion is gone. people start looking at what is real what is digital. since i m doing emotive portraits here, the idea is not to show off how good my DI is, but to establish a connection with the viewer. that s why right in the start i make it a point for my DI to be as invisible as possible, even though i may fall a lil short in some of the images.

That's great of you to point it out.. what's important is not the DI but how the DI helps make your final image pops out.

Anyway, I really like your work. I'm actually more interested in how you lighted the image, not the DI work. There's really not much DI you can do on a crappy image. I know you worked on your lighting well.

We're all learning here, so I hope I can learn more from you as well.

Thanks!

i used EOS400D, 30 mm sigma EX, 10-22 Canon wide angle (special thanks to my friend ZJ for lending me!), 430EX speedlite off camera with shoot through umbrella (for some shots).

How many speedlights did you use? On some shots, I'm seeing at most two light sources aside from the ambient. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Wonderful works, i especially like the color and mood. just one photo i found a bit weird about the way how her hand fingers put on the foot. for one moment, i thought she has very long foot fingers, haha. just 1 cent from someone very green :-P

hi casio, i had 1 speedlight only. but there are other light sources in the room itself. there is a standing lamp and wall lights too. in some shots i combined shots in which the model is well lit by the off cam flash and composite with a shot with natural room lighting (but model not well lit enough) as the background. coz the room lighting is so much more nicer than cold soft umbrella diffused flash (otherwise every shot looks like a studio shot). but on the other hand u need good light on the model so u can easily manipulate in PP to match the room lighting background plate. but i guess i ve to do that only coz my off cam flash coverage is too much, and cancelled off the room lighting.

i did it that above way only because i didnt want to 'waste' the beautiful room lighting. but not every shot is done like this.

not sure if it makes any sense to u. hope it helps : ) thanks for the interest!

I just noticed that some of your shots have 2 catchlights so I thought you were using 2 light sources. Other catchlight might have been from the lamp or tv or somewhere else.

What you said completely makes sense. Thanks so much for explaining. I really appreciate it.

Thanks again!
