it is a small hotel in chinatown area, Royal Peacock. i used EOS400D, 30 mm sigma EX, 10-22 Canon wide angle (special thanks to my friend ZJ for lending me!), 430EX speedlite off camera with shoot through umbrella (for some shots).
please don't say that, i am still learning myself, there are lotsa experienced photogs here who served as way better inspiration : )

thanks revad! really happy u pointed out my DI is natural. i decided that it is the most important thing for the series when i heavily manipulated the photos in PP. as they are emotive portraits, i didnt want it to be too fake & distanced the viewer from it. nevertheless, a few of them still fall a lil short in being natural, in my opinion : )

oh uncle tung don't say like that leh! i m very sure u shoot way better, and build better rapport with the models too. you have got one shot of fion (or fiona?) in the past that is v inspiring to me : )

Hi sir were #1 and #3 taken on the same bed? I assume it is since the setting looks similar. I was just wondering how you achieved that Hi Key effect, did you wait till the came up/put the umbrella behind the curtains? Or you took #1 at night, which is unlikely.
Uh and also good idea removing the television! It did look a bit distracting, did you carry it? or clone stamp it away?

Hi munkey don't call me sir leh! u ask this question i ve to dig bck my old files to check what i did in PP sia. all shots of mandy are taken in the morning. the natural lighting condition for both shots are same. what i think happen is like this. in the first shot i fired my off camera flash and coz i used a rather big umbrella, it illuminated the curtain as well. seems to me this cancelled out all the natural lighting ( as in how i see the room lighting with my eyes). the 2nd shot i shot without flash, so can see the bit of sunlight through the curtains. nevertheless, as i ve said, both shots are heavily DI. i m not sure if the 3rd shot can be considered Hi-Key, but it s acheived thro post processing.
i m sure the masters here would know how to achieve it with real lighting. but i m not sure if expensive lighting equipments would be required.
u know, actually i don't like to disect the images like this
once i start talking abt how i PP, i feel that the illusion is gone. people start looking at what is real what is digital. since i m doing emotive portraits here, the idea is not to show off how good my DI is, but to establish a connection with the viewer. that s why right in the start i make it a point for my DI to be as invisible as possible, even though i may fall a lil short in some of the images.haha, u arent the first who commented on the tv, i did considered quite a while about leaving it in the 3rd shot. maybe it really isnt doing good to the image. my rationale bck then was to balanced the bright mirror on the opp side. and i ve been wanting to have glowing tv screens in this series. however most of the shots didnt work out well.
