Hey guys, i only have a Bessa R which does not have 40mm framelines.

Any one had any methods to share using a 40mm lens on such a camera and your thoughts about why you chose to use whichever frameline ?

I understand that the 40mm is closer to the 35mm in angle of view. Being a 50 user, I think the 40 complements the 50 more than the 40 complement the 35. I usually frame my 40 summi using the 35mm frameline.

But I have read somewhere that if its close distance, better to use 50mm, if its more than say 3 m, to use the 35mm frameline.

There are still some differences between 35mm and 40mm. So you will need to frame very tightly using the 35mm frame line for the 40mm lens.

NO! you DON'T frame "tightly", you do the opposite. Else, head or legs might disappear :nono:

Oops! Pardon me please. I am confused. What I meant should be when using 35mm lens on 40mm frame line should frame tightly, but not applicable for this case.

Sorry!

Tell you what, Timothy... Buy a R3A from me and it will solve your 40mm frameline problem. :)

Just kidding... ;p

Personally, I would choose to use the 50mm frameline as I rather crop my picture than to loose the head or leg. A bigger view is normally better than loosing things...

from my usage.
the 40mm is closer to the 35mm framelines
but i use a R3 so its not a big problem :)

depending on the camera u are using, the M4 and earlier, i'd go for the 50mm, but the M4-p onwards, the 50mm seems to have shrunk as has the 35mm and the 35mm would seem to be a better option. Just my own observations from using the summicron-c lens on my M2, M6 and MP

Nope, i'm saving up to buy a 35mm lens from you chiif :) Can't afford a new outfit for now.
Anyways, do you think its likely that cosina will release an affoardabe digital rangefinder ?

The last time I asked them on digital rangefinder, the answer is negative.

I was thinking of bringing in the R-D1 sometime back. But the warranty and support issues made me procrastinate till now. I do not want to sell something that I cannot support you guys. The last time I called up the Singapore Epson sales office the receptionist said Epson doesn't make cameras at all. Anyway, that shows the level of interest the company place on the product range.

Personally, digital cameras will still take sometime before they really matures. The early Leicas took a few years before getting it correct more than 70 years ago...

Anyway, if you are thinking of digital rangefinders, check out our neighbour http://shashinki.com/shop/rangefinder-system-c-34.html?osCsid=ab45a382be097585dfcb9cbba76a1dc1
an alternative to the very popular shop in town... ;p

Free shipping too! They even sell Zeiss Ikon. :)
