I just bought the camera from TCW this afternoon. And when I tried at home in the evening, I've encountered the problem of not being able to take any photos unless I'm in full auto. I tried all other modes, like shutter or aperture priority, but got the same results. After I half pressed to get the auto focus done, followed by pressing the button fully, the camera clicked, and then it will black out. This is the point when it just black out for quite long. Almost as if the camera hanged. But if I'm using full auto mode, the camera will click almost immediately, and the image is displayed at the LCD. I then went on to experiment using the live preview to take photos instead. Surprising it worked, and no matter what mode it is, there's no problem. Nothing seems to be documented... perhaps it is really faulty? Unless someone has some idea, I guess I'll have to make a trip back to TCW tomorrow. sigh

I have the same problem as u. Currently cam in CSC. Waiting for the conclusion.

Think your battery is faulty... after 1hr+ slot in your battery and try taking pictures and see how long it takes to become flat again. if it flats very fast then should be battery problem. get a new one from EASTGEAR maybe...

Im having occasional Error99 problem and sometimes the first picture i take after switching the camera on is Blank. But everything is ok most of the times. It seems 40D is problematic, lots of ppl complaining on DPreview, but a very nice camera and im lovin it.

My 40D drains the battery fast. With a fully charged battery in the battery grip and the camera switched off, the battery gets drained to one bar after 2-3 days. Anyone else has this problem? :think:
 

Lesson of the day: Always take out batt when not in use.

I did not encounter batt drainage prob when doing that. The same applies for speedlights
 

Not taking out the battery was never a problem with my (previous) 400D's. The batteries last weeks without any problem. :think:

Found a more useful possible answer here. But the discussion in the thread is about D30 not 40D. Anyone knows whether 40D has the same issue? :think:
