I'm a 400D user.... Want better and higher ISO with higher FPS than my 400D. The bigger & better LCD doesn't hurt :bsmilie:

cos it has blue tooth, mp3 player, wifi, 3G and a 18MP camera? :s

nah not upgrading ... the improvement are not substantial to warrant a upgrade yet.

at the speed Canon gives upgrade... most probably i have to wait for 70D

Will rather move on directly to 5D MkII instead.

But I think people who would want to move on to 50D are those who currently have the 350D 400D 450D or even 40D users who have invested heavily in EF-S lenses. They might want to stay with APS-C sized sensor because they won't be able to use their EF-S lenses on 5D MkII.

Having said that, though I have the 2 EF-S kit lenses with 40D, I will still upgrade to 5D MkII directly instead of 50D.

50d is redundant if upgrade from 40d, unless u dun mind spending just to join the queue vying just to get the "new" model.

However 40d to 5d/5dmk2 is a rather a leap though.

Was from a 400D to a 50D. The Vga 3inch LCD is enuff a reason for upgrade! ahha.

kencfk i thought u had a 40d previously?

That was a bridging camera between 400D and 50D (cos 50D was my real aim). Used 40D for a very short period only.

Why should I get a 50D? I still get great photographs with my humble 20D. Why waste my money when I can save up for an L lens or FF body! Just because a new camera is out you HAVE to get it? That's nonsense. Reality check: You don't get great pictures just because you have the latest camera. You must have the 'eye' for a great shot. I bet some will buy new camera bodies just because they're the latest, take crappy shots and then BLAME IT ON THE CAMERA. So typical of Singaporean photographers.

I share the same opinion as you do. My 20D is still churning out decent pic although it was launched 3 years ago (if I am not mistaken).
However, a 5D MKII would be a different story altogether. The FF vc APS C size, the 3" LCD vs 1.8"LCD, the vastly superior resolution and last but not the least, the ability to utilize the EF lens that I have to their fullest capability is definitely worth the plunge without needing to step into the 1DS territory.

since many ppl want to sale their 40D ... go to 5D mk2 or 50d. cos i hear many ppl say since canon upgrade to 14 bit colour many ppl can't control it the colour. but if u really know to control is really nice i spend 2 week to try control colour final is really nice than 5d. but for detail cannot say la 5d is better than 40d. 50d i try b4 not so much change la... just a little bit only not so much. and also i know many ppl are going to nikon after using 40d. the nikon are same colour with 30D so they still at 8 bit colour style. so up date 1 ...... i have using 1d mk3 the colour also 14 bit many ppl also say 1d mk2 or 1d mk2n are better than 1dmk3 i dun think so i thing maybe they dun know how to use.... lo.... they say new canon dsrl are not good... i dun think so i can say if i give u the best or the power 1 dslr u dun know how to use also same right ... any where u must to know how to use or how to control the camara dun give many reason about the camera

I don mean to pick on any fellow cser. following is just my own personaly opinion. i think watever camera doesn't really matter loh... most important u must be happy with ur set of equipment and u must b happy with ur photos.... not every photo taken by famous photographer using top notch equipment are well liked by every single individual. while we always read comments on how nice a pix from those that used pns too.

as for y upgrade from 40D to 50D, well depends on individual user defination of 'worth or not' loh. in Jan 1st '07, i started with 400d in Oct '07 i switched to 40D and i was very happy with the extra features and 14bit processor. now i just upgraded to 50D and i find the change worth. i simply like the 50D's LCD, on 400 and 40D e LCD not so accurate, with e 50D its very sharp and i am more confident on the output now. i mainly take photos of my kids hence, to me immediate accurate feedback is more important cos once missed i will not get the same pix anymore.

lastly, hee.... i'm not surprise that i may switch to 5DMkII when it comes... meanwhile i am happy with the 1.6crop as it mainly capitalizes the best of EF lens. BTW i don own any EF-s.

40D good enough for me for now
next its going to be 60D or full frame.

At first it was because of the higher resolution. However, after using the Canon 50D for two months now, I find that it gives me a higher percentage of keeper shots than the Canon 40D.

As for those who mention that we should stick with the older xxD or move on to the 5D Mark II, I guess it really depends on what you are using the camera mainly for. I shoot mainly birds handheld and the older xxD does not pack enough resolution to capture these little critters as well as the newer xxD. The 5D Mark II (or even the 1Ds Mark III) is not as good as the Canon 50D for my purposes due to the loss of 1.6X crop factor (think of it as a 1.6X built-in teleconverter in the Canon 50D vis-a-vis the full frame cameras). With birds, you need all the lens length you can get.

In view of the above, could I suggest that in commenting on the various camera models that everyone states what you use your camera primarily for?

I think 40D's price is now at rock-bottom - I will definitely get 40D.

Maybe can read DPreview to see if 50D is better than 40D. personally I prefer 40D sensor than 50D sensor.

Wait for 60D or 5DmKii ba.

i just upgrade from 20D to 50D, to me it a huge leap interm of technology & handling. The high ISO from 50D is superb.even at 6400.i had bought my 20D 4 yr ago at $2400!!. Now a new 50D is around $1500(i bought at korea). At first though of upgrade to 5D2,but the price put me off. For 40D owner, please hold yr purhase if u are upgrade to 50D.

Tried Canon DSLR from 350D to 400D, 30D, 40D, 50D.....
