Congrats, iboey! :D

As for those of you who are affected by the underexposure issue, please send your cameras to have them calibrated. It is, after all, a very simple software fix:

Do not get angry, get EVEN. :D The 400D is a really good camera to pass up.

PS: From what I've read, it's related to the inconsistent quality of focus screen used in the 400D (the metering sensor is behind the focus screen). But this can be easily compensated with the software AE adjustment.

got my 400D bck, but the report said they have done a function test......does it show that they have help me adjust my camera back to proper expose already??

I have just got my 400D back from Canon service centre, they mentioned they have +1 stop exposure to my external flash component tunning to my camera...:dunno: Dunno what it meant but indeed improve on my underexpose thingy that i encountered previously

does this teach a lesson to buy just the body and opt for a faster lens instead of going for a kit 18-55 seems to have UExposure problems

You joking right?

You joking right?

no.. really, i did this.. bought the 400D body and the EF-S 10-22. next setup 85mm 1.8

if you see 90% of the people upgrade or have the itch to upgrade from their kit lens to it big brothers..

agree?

I had some other issues with another lens but I solve it using the help of a tech support forum. They gave me a step by step information of how to clean. I am sure they can give you some advice on this issue as well here is the page for Canon Tech Support

hmmm think my warranty still got a few months. hardly use my cam... but i ought to fix any underexposed problem before i start buying my lenses/eqpt next yr!

Anybody sent in recently?

im using 400D too. i noticed underexposure problem with my 50mm1.8 too. did some research and many other users are experiencing the same problem too. apparently canon did this because alot of ppl complained that the 350d had overexposure problems and always had blown-out skies. so maybe canon wanted to prevent this blown-out issue and reduced the ev so we can have nicer skies (but our indoor pictures become underexposed:()

i read that some users preferred this underexposed problem than having blown-out issues as underexposing means more details and can be lighten up in photoshop whereas blown-out cant save anything. so they recommended using +2/3ev. thats what im doing, i use +2/3ev when indoors and 0ev when outdoors.

question is... is there any difference between sending in to canon for fixing, and using +2/3ev? shouldn't it be the same?

thanks guys

For me as long as the exposure is consistent is OK.
So far i am happy with my set. i think also need to +ev a bit only as well.
But not a problem at all.
Tried testing auto modes...all look OK...but never use auto mode in practice.

got back my camera. they recalibrated the cam back to normal. =D
now i just gotta get my hands on some good glass. hehe

i upgraded to the 40D while i sent my 400D for tuning. after collecting back my 400D, i regreted buying my 40D cos the pix from the 400D before the 'tuning' and after is so different. the metering is spot on no more underexpose.

Hmmm.. i just noticed the underexpose problems after reading from this threads.. my warranty is in HK and still valid for one year.. do i have to pay to correct the problem?

No you dont but you will have to bring both the warranty card as well as the HK shop receipt down to CSC.

i feels my pic quite soft with my sigma 18-200mm. is it considered underexpose?:dunno:

Ok.. then wad if i dun have my warranty card and receipt already? how much do i have to pay then? and how long must i wait? i saw many people stating one week.. must i wait that long?

Sorry you have been misled.

Even if you had both the HK warranty card, it's not valid outside HK. So, it's useless. AFAIK, only lenses have international warranty.

I suspect you'll pay about S$50. In reality, they can fix it for you within 15 minutes. But they'll most likely ask you to come back few days later. You can also request for express service but that requires a small fee (~$30, I think).

Please bring your kit lens (or any lens with largest aperture of f/3.5 or smaller) with you.

Is this the same?

Technically they are the same. But you may find yourself running out of +ve exposure compensation as the 400D only offers compensation from -2 to +2 eV. Also, if you shoot in Auto mode, there's no exposure compensation option.
