400D or 30D

Considering these two.

Read from canon.com that both have quite similar features except that 400D has higher reso at 10MP vs 30D's 8.2MP. So does that mean 400D gives me better pictures?

Megapixels should be the least of your concerns unless:

1. You crop a lot
2. Need it for larger sized prints

I think that the 400D would be a better option not because of features (which the 30D wins, hands down) but because I think investing in lenses is much more important. A good camera body cannot alter the color rendition, sharpness, etc of the picture.

Besides, the 400D is a pretty good camera itself!

buy buy buy :lovegrin: If the USA lens has a international warranty, that is a bonus. For me, I will also check the lens code too... It should be at least UU12xx or UVxxxx if it is new. But $900 is a good buy :thumbsup:

900 wif international warranty is a very good buy.. hard to find such prices these days. hehe.. MTL~~ BBB

i would say go for the 30D if the budget permits you . I used a 400D before . Its a really good camera . Yes , it is more advance cause it one of the latest but i swear that when you see the pictures taken on the 30D , you would change your mind on the 400D . Lets say you take the SAME photo using the SAME set up eg: Apeature settings etc . you would see the difference . If i am not wrong , the processor on the 30D is suppose to be more powerful right ?(correct me if i wrong , still green) But i comfirm do see the differnce in the picture quality . And yes , 5fps is just wonderful of couse cant beat the MKIIn of the MKIII lah , but still pretty decent .

Dont get me wrong , the 400D is an amazing camera and the price is also VERY GOOD , but with just a little more , why not just jump straight to the 30D . But if you were to wait ..... dont bother to be honest , you can NEVER beat technology . Things will keep changing , so just go for it , given tat the 30D is pretty decent priced nowadays .

But the BEST is to go down to Cathay , give both the cameras a try . Do a fair trail on both the cameras and decide after that . Make a choice that you would not regret .

Anyway , just a recommendation . The decision is yours but rest assure that even if you get a 400D or 30D , it is STILL a good choice . GO GO GO

:thumbsup: yup, I won't hesitate to fully agreed coz I too tried on this 2 cams(400+30), indeed there's a diff in terms of IQ with same lenses + same ambient(surrounding lighting=setup)+highlighted in Red.

so as if you buy a totally new copy for $900 (with US warranty), it worths imho.

just want to know, is that any third party is selling LCD protector for 400D? not the protector film, but those like nikon D80/D200 has.

i just figure out that the Nikon DK-21M is good to fit to canon 400D and it is cost $38 from nikon price guide.

To my knowledge, no such thing exists for the Canon 400D.

im thinking of getting dslr too and been looking at 400d for a long time. 30d looks awesome too. 30d body is much better i think but 400d is is much nicer with battery grip haha. iv been researching on flickr for a very very long time because its not a cheap hobby but more like an expensive investment.

400d or 30d i think its pretty much the same. same crop factor, same lens mount. no point buying a 1Dmk3 to shoot very sharp but boring photo with bad lighting. a 400d under a good user who invest in lens and lighting can beat a pro anytime. unless the pro also good lighting la haha... but yeah lighting IS photography. so spend more on speedlites and lens. do search on flickr also. the best pictures are mostly produced by 350/400d and compact cams : )

correct me if im wrong. wanna know more opinions before payday!

30D has better specs compared to 400D. the noise control @ high iSO is good esp. @ 3200. lower pixel count also relates to lower noise when compared to 400D. if budget is a concern, 400D would be the option. =)
