Maybe they'll introduce an A700i, with some slight improvements, to make the early adopters feel a bit "dui". :p

:nono: Never try that... just kills your customer base...

Like you only know of 2 and rumor 1 more entry level. Will the 4th be the "Mothership" ?

currently only aware of something like
A200 (A100 replacement)
A900
and may be one below A200 to compete on entry level market. So what is the fourth? Special edition or above A900 level (real Flagship)?

Sony is expensive. I hope they'll follow Nikon to introduce something like d40 lineup but without limitation of expandability. something like 80-20 feature entry dslr. From what i see a200 already cost 2000 sgd if converted from euro, and this is Singapore we all know how is the pricing going to be.

I wish Sony will re-release a100 series again. With better pricing and features (i dont mind if not 10mp but 8mp sensor, keep all those dials and buttons with better menu system for those who new to dslr), that'll cost only around 1.3k in Spore for kit starter (18-125mm???). Better sss for shaky hands first timers and proximity sensor is a good addition. No necessarily to have cleaning sensor on the body.I believe the wave will start building fast if this happen. I dont believe in live view feature....its kinda stupid imo. Give more alternative of affordable KM/Sony lenses than carl zeiss ones

Colourful body will be nice feature also..lol

The A200 is the replacement for the A100... you got what you wished for... I believe there will be one more DSLR below the A200... a really basic entry level DSLR... a bit like the Dynax 60 in relation to the Dynax 5, 7 & 9 during the film era...

i believe Dynax 60 was between Dynax 5 and Dynax 7 if my memory serve me well.

Ah...is that so? I always thought it to be below the 5...

I had the Dynax 60. At the time, there were two models released: Dynax 40 and Dynax 60. Specs wise, the 40 was lower than the Dynax 5 (A bit like the Dynax 300 - very basic), and the Dynax 60 was indeed better than the Dynax 5.

Both were squarely in the consumer category.

Allow me to speculate:

Basic model
EOS400D/D40x/(New Alpha model)

Consumer model
D80/(Alpha 200)

Enthusiast/Semi-Pro
EOS40D/D300/Alpha 700

Enthusiast/Semi-Pro Full-Frame
EOS5D/(Alpha 900?)

Advanced Full-Frame
EOS1DsMKIII/D3/(New Alpha model??)

So.. A100 lies in Basic model as well? thought A200 is a replacement of A100? and I thought A700 is somewhere on par with D80?

The Alpha 700 has been compared directly with the D300/EOS40D in many magazines. The A100 is actually more than "just basic", though I've felt it's slightly below D80, but definitely higher than D40/D40x.

And maybe in my speculative list, the EOS400D should be in the ranks of Alpha 100 and D80?

no matter how good or cheap or free bodies sony gives, its pointless

who in the right mind will pay 4.5k for a 70-200 no vr, no is, no anything lens when u can grab a nikon and canon (the much more established and pro) 70-200 at half the price? even the small 50mm lens by sony is so much more expensive. if wanna argue abt quality and performance, nikon and canon are time-tested and they are so much cheaper, wat basis does sony has to charge so ex? there is simply no basis.

theres no point in sony cam stuffs. well, if u are rich then, kudos to u

Is there a need for such comments here ?

For your information, all lens on Alpha are SSS (IS as you called it).

Hi. The plural of "stuff" is still "stuff".

There is no such thing as "stuffs". Not as far as nouns are concerned. :)

your words are being ignored by me personally.. you can type but i wont read.. thanks for the "friendliest" person from the "very professional" Nikon..

if you never do much homework about Sony's product, then don't show off yours.. as it only make you a joke to us! :nono:

You are way too OT here.

2 points here
1) Each camera system has their pro and cons. And its up to individual preference to choose the system they like. CS has always discouraged discussion like comparing one system to another. Its a never ending and pointless comparison.

2) I don't see the logic of rich or poor associated with photography here. The way people spend their hard earned money is up to them. Tactless comments like "if you are rich" is a possible indication that you are either jealous or naive about the way different people spend their money..

All similar OT discussions stop here. Infraction given.

I'm a Minolta+Sony user. kcuf2 is listing the facts which are actually true. The local prices are for Sony lenses are overpriced especially when you consider how little market share Sony have here. Which does indeed deter young photographers from joining the Sony camp.

Only that he did not mention that many Sony lenses is much cheaper overseas. Not to mention the Minolta G lenses which could be had at a lower price than comparable N & C lenses. But then again, many folks do not have chances for overseas shopping trips and buying lenses online has its risks.

Still I hope the local Sony will make their lenses comparable to overseas prices. It really does not make sense to overprice it here.

me too. I thought kcuf2 comments are pretty reasonable.

I used to own a minolta 7D. In those days, it is hard to find a minolta mount lens but they were priced pretty ok.

Now, I find the bodies of sony very attractive once they have both live view and AS in the next releases, coupled with their sensor technology, I am tempted to get a sony DSLR.

The ONLY thing that is stopping me is the pricing of their lens. I don't need many lens but I need a tele prime for portraits around 85mm. Is there a sony 85mm f1.8? I could afford the nikon 85mm f1.4 but not the sony 85mm f1.4....

Kind of curious, there isn't a pricelist in sony CS forum unlike of other brands, is the pricing on sony website the best you can get in shops or is street price cheaper?

There's no 85mm F1.8, the most affordable would be the 85mm F1.4 Minolta (non-G). If you don't mind a longer focal length, the 135mm F2.8 is much more affordable.
The pricing on sony's website is not the best.
