35L 1.4 or 50L 1.2???Which will be more of a everyday lens?

that's where you need your imagination & creativity to kick in...

No offence, but these 2 pictures just further reinforce in me that the 35mm (L or non-L) or wider is more suitable as an everyday lens. :)

i have both the 35L & 50L, both are excellent lens , i use the 50L more for portraits.

I own 35L for two months already, no regret at all to replace my 50L. It stays on my 5DMII almost all the time. Go and get it...

vote for 35L
faster AF and better min focus dist to play

Personally I use mine 35mm more often. The 50mm maybe too restrictive indoor.

My own personal experience is with the 35L. For everyday shooting purpose, it stays on my camera 100% of the time when I bring the camera out unless I have a specific plan to shoot portraiture. In that case, I will use the 85L/135L. For FF as everyday lens, I think either 24L II or 35L will be more appropriate for what I want to shoot. For specific landscape shooting, I will use Samyang 24mm.

no offense done, its your personal preference that these shots are tight for your taste...

The 35mm on FF body of course. There is a reason why compact camera with fixed focal length always have the wide angle lens.

The 35L without a shadow of a doubt. It's just that much more versatile. One crucial aspect is the minimum focus distance, which allows for closer focusing on the 35L.

The title heading is comparing the 35 and the 50. The 24 is OT.

I'm just doing a comparison of price, not a discussion.

I have both - leaving aside the width which is partly personal pref , I prefer the 50L

It does a better job of compensating for my lack of skill. IMHO colours come out more vibrant

Yah, so get one that costs in between...
I tried out both lens at the shop... and i chose the 35mm... i found the 50mm a lil too close-up for an "everyday" lens...
Anyways, you can always crop in after takin the photo with a 35mm... you can't do that with a 50mm...

I find the 50mm focal length on a full-frame body ideal general purpose lens. So if you're having a crop sensor body like say the 7D then the 35mm lens would be my choice.

I second that. The 50mm on FF body is an eye-view lens as well.

I'll definitely say the 35L because it's so much more versatile. The 50mm fov is just a bit too tight at times on a FF.

50 mm is a typical portrait lens thus not that suitable for every day use.

The 35 mm (provided used on FF) makes more sense in this regard. Besides, I remember that back in the old film camera days 35 mm was pretty much the standard kit lens.

Cheers.

Actually the 14mmf2.8 II is my current favorite "everyday" lens. If I need to zoom in, I just walk nearer. To zoom out, it can really take super wide with little distortion. Simply Amazing...... Unless you really need F1.2 or f1.4, then the 14mm will not be suitable.
