Small & light may not suit the liking of guys, but its a hit for the lady.

Small & light does not means it may breakdown anytime.

Ya, I know :(

Sorry, but I really don't have any matching scene (with samy exposure data): used the 300D largely as a "lightmeter/polaroid" for my 4x5 actually, so don't have a lot of pics to compare with.

IMHO, with some careful PS/Neatimage/etc. - and like you said - the 350D image is quite good for 8R or smaller.

(Also personally feel that the 18-55mm is soft at anything > f8), so the lack of sharpness may not be a noise issue)

What's all this hoo-ah about too small and light a camera? Its how you use it that counts. ;)

Personally, I apprecaiate a small and light camera ever since I had two kids and have a pile of other stuff to carry whenever we go travelling.

Anyway, I had a short oppurtunity to try out the 350D at the IT show and I seemed to feel that the 350D's autofocus was less kilat than the 20D. Takes longer to decide which AF point to use, hunts more, and then eventually picks the wrong AF point. Anyone else thought this was the case too, or is it just me?

Its also almost a $1000 cheaper than the 20D which is great.

Indeed the 350D is puny, not only that, the shutter sounds very high pitch which makes me feel really uneasy about. It feels like a prosumer DC more than a typical DSLR. Still, I prefer the size of my 300D.

here are the 100% crops of some hilights and shadows.

noise still acceptable to me.. :sticktong

All edited with GIMP free alternative to expensive PS.. cool

350D's ISO800 look pretty good to me for such a 'cheap' DSLR but the 20D is certainly still better by quite a bit.

i also have 20D shots.. i'll crop it soon and post it..

not really, i find the noise grain of the 20D much more finer and more pleasing, much like film grain in the sense that it is consistent throughout the image.

the 350D noise is like all over the place and much more concentrated in the shadows areas, making the image look very 'digital'.

but what's more important is how good the image look when printed.

Just for your info....1 D mk 2 noise level is better than 20D but 1 Ds mk 2's noise level is even lower....so you see...you get what you paid...pay more $ & get lower noise level....???...but why we so particular about the noise? Photography is not talking about noise only....there are even more thing to explore. Just my opinion.

When talking about noise is there alot of difference when taking a photo and print it out in 4R or even 8R.
