is it? i tot ISO1600 more useful for travelling

cos i definitely wont bring those big and heavy fast L lenes, and prime lens are too inflexible....

probably something like 28-105 or one of those EF-S lens with long range, no need to bring external flash also...just use internal flash and pump up the ISO ;p

cos seldom shoot low light during travel cos gotta bring tripod...but that's just me.

was there on friday, wanted to use my own CF card and try out iso800. like to bring back and print to check for noise. crew there says no, as i should be able to tell from the lcd!!??
i don't even trust my sony crt n he expect me to trust that 1.8" lcd!!
very disappointed as i was hoping to buy it on thursday, guess got to wait for a friend to buy in order to check that out.
maybe by then the VG also arrived on our shore.

ps- a question for CANON Singapore; why r we sucking hind tit? don't we pay good money for our equipment?

Hi,
Judeseah

Tough luck.
This staff at IT show did not know what he or she was talking about.
Not everyone is well trained. And quite rude too.
And why so sticky about letting you try an image with your own CF card?
Wow, they can tell "noise" from the small LCD?
Then the noise problem must be very bad.
Some may just be part-timers, some are actually sales staff from certain photo shops co-opted to sales counter duty for the show by their bosses.

huh? why no? i brought my own 50mm prime and cf card.. I just plugged it in..

set to ISO800 f5.6 jpeg-L-fine

aimed at a bright canon sign board and took 2 shots. wanted to test the dynamic range and noise response (got bright and got dark portions). looks ok to me...

i did the same with a 20D

50mm f5.6 iso800. jpeg L-fine

Anyone wants unprocessed photos please contact me.

Me too, I was stop by a staff when I was inserting my CF card, darn it! What's the point of letting us use/try it without the CF card??

ya the shutter sound was weird....its sounded similar to the e300...if I remembered correctly :sweatsm:

sorry.. rephrase.. my friend's 50mm... haven't buy body buy lens first? siao bo? hahah die die commit myself to canon first? :P

when i was at mscolor last fri (see my initial thots in the 350D at IT show thread), there were some guys after me who were 'coo-ing' and 'ahhh-ing' over the 350D. so, some do mind the smallness, others love it. to each his/her own.

despite my reservations over the size and slight leh cheyness over the menu selection, its still a pretty darn good cam for beginners or those looking for a small & handy back-up cam. its gets the job done, and do it well. so, for those buying or thinking of buying, best go and touch-touch for urself. see it and decide for urself whether this is the right cam for u. ;)

oh yeah, as for the canon 'staff'... (note the puntcuations), they are only part-timer students or some holiday workers. very common for all booths during these fairs. put it simply - they know nuts abt the products they are selling except to repeat the standard sales line and close the sale asap to earn their commission. of course, there are some who are more knowledgable. but, by and large... i normally :ipuke: blood when i asked them questions in the fairs.... :bsmilie:

I supposed it is a good cam...given at price like this

Any arguments on old technology is better? :)

Ok first of all I'm a great believer in any camera being great in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. I was just checking out people's preference. Personally i like something that my hand won't swallow at least.

Noise wise though, from yan yew kay's pic the noise is pretty visible at the shadow area near the yellow Canon sign. i can't imagine that it would be better at a 100% crop.

so lets say if i have 2k to spend on camera body...will you all get a second hand 10d or a new 350d?
the only thing i dont like about 350d is the size...
argh...
why cant canon just follow 300d design...

different people have different tolerance for noise levels :D

I think my tolerance quite high.. cos I can't see the noise.. :P

ok i'll get some 100% crops done today..

For me, I'll go for a 2nd hand 10D, provided the shutter count is low. It's also kind of unfair to make this decision because I'm a 10D user, already have the batt grip and backup batts, so I don't need to purchased the batt grip and different batts for the 350D.

350d is quit a good option. other than spot metering,i would prefer 350d rahter than d70.
JUST MY POINT OF VIEW>NO WAR PLS
BODY IS REALLY look LIKE A TOY>MORE LIKE A small machine gun.IT really can do more than what u can imagine.
BUY BUY BUY
Battery not same as the 20d type?JUST wait for someone to get the grip molify.***JUST DREAMING :)

Dun really like the way 350D's control... a few thiings like WB, AF Mode, Metering mode..etc etc, when u press their respective button, sellection is via the preview screen, not the LCD above it...

For those who are interested, here's some 100% crop of snaps using 300D & 350D @ iso 1600. (sorry but I sold the 300D so the comparison is not the same scene).

350D 100% crop, 1/5 sec, f5, Canon 18-55mm:

350D 100% crop, 1/5 sec, f5, Canon 18-55mm, Neatimage (auto profile):

350D full image (red box showing cropped area):

300D 100% crop, 1/40 sec, f3.5, Sigma 18-125mm:

IMHO the 350d's noise pattern is more uniform and aesthetically pleasing, like film grain.

cheers,
