PROS=
30D:
Faster FPS
Larger Buffer
Better viewfinder
Rear Command Dial (VERY USEFUL)
Bigger Screen
Spot Meter
Black in color

Rebel XT:
Cheaper
Available in silver or black
Lighter

Both camera are capable of equally good image if can get them to meter correctly and AF correctly. The Rebel is slighltly inferior in handling because of the lack of the rear command dial, darker viewfiner and slow FPS. So if you do not need this feature, save teh money and get the rebel. If you THINK you need this features, ask yourself if you are shooting sports? If not, you do NOT need the 30D but it does not mean that you should not consider it. The 30D is a very good value and for some people, the extra features are worth the extra cash. If i were in your position and have the same passion for photography as i do now, I would go for the 30D because i will appreciate the extra features. BUT if getting the 30D means getting a lousy lens, it is not a very smart move.

im a poly student too, and cash wise is tight. i too am looking at getting a 350D. but think abt it, when u buy from places like Harvey Norman, you are apt to pay 1.5k and above dependant on salesman and area competition. whereas some people here, if u search the B&S section, are selling them at slightly over 1.4K. they still throw in things like 1GB CF card and such. marginally cheaper, but its better on me that i have the extra cash to blow on a set of better lenses. save up, borrow money from somewhere, except loansharks that is, and get it from the dudes around. it sure will help you some for the lenses you would want to get for a good picture.

I will choose 350D as my first DSLR because I still need to save $ on lenses, flash, bag...& more.
If you are a Canon SLR user before than go for 30D...:)

Hop this help...;)

actually, i feel that, a few hundred dollars more, it's a much nicer DSLR you're getting, more functions that you can grow on. but of course the 350D is really light compared to the 30D.

i see... 2nd hand 20D? Ure selling ? how much would it cost..
No choice, ve to pay by instalment, not enuff $ haha.

If you do not have ready money, then it may not be wise to kill yourself with the burden of 30D. Maybe wiser to get the 350D and still have money to buy lenses. Don't forget, you definitely need a few lense for your new toy and not forgeting an external flash unit (maybe).

any where to get reliable 2nd hand DSLR?

it's only as reliable as what the seller tells you. but if the seller's not completely honest, good luck.

Try to get those with some warranty left on the unit. That way, you can at least go back to Canon. Or better yet, upgrade the warranty by getting a 2 years extension from Canon.

well talking about warranty.... make sure you get a valid reciep, as far as CANON is concerned, no reciept no warranty, even if you have an unfilled-warranty card. The card only has value if it accompanied with a valid reciept.
