oh dear..my dad is 56 years old and almost no savings...
jeanie, i think the absolute amount is not important but its how he spends his money. if he's making only 1800 a month, i think 30k is pretty decent after working for 7-8 years. especially if he doesnt live with his parents.

i would say its pretty decent... if he has not much parents financial support in the first place... i know many of my friends started working paying off study loans... once that is done, the parents are retired then need to support them... then the younger siblings goes into Uni themselves, need to support them etc.... if you are not born rich , i think for these cases after 10 yrs and still got 30k i think its pretty decent already...

His friend A in the mid 1980s was poor, earned about $700 to $800.
Taxi driver and other friends tried many times to hitch Mr. A to local gals.
Mr. A got rejected repeatedly.
U know why, lah....Taxi driver ever asked one of the gals...why she rejected his friend Mr. A.
Got a brutally honest answer point blank. It is about $ or the lack of it.
So one day, Mr. A just gave up...(very depressing you know, being rejected repeatedly)
Sold his inherited small 3rm flat.
Packed up and left to go to Thailand.
Chiangrai, to be specific.
Married a nice gal there.
Set up a small cafe eatery.
His Thai wife caring and hardworking.
They prospered.
Now got a few cafes including one in BKK.
He is doing well.
Recently Mr. A came back to visit this taxi driver friend who was so nice to him.
What does this tell you...?

Jeanie, let me offer u one advice. Today your dream man maybe be rich but in life funny things can happen anytime, will you stay with him when disasters or sad events take place beyond human control ? u dun knw what will change 10 years down the road, or can i say life itself is an uncertainity esp. in today's fast changing world.

I echo this sentiment.
Many a men, at 35 years old, would have committments that require monthly servicing:
housing, insurance, investments, home expenses, children expenditure, transport, photography.... etc. etc.
Liquid cash on hand (in bank) may not be high.
His net worth will be in all his other assets AND his potential worth.

after reading this thread, i feel that our world has changed people perspective of marriage & love, it has become more of a business partnership in fulfilling each other needs. NO MONEY NO LOVE ? yes.. it is true sadly and make sure u got some humour and fun in the package as well.
unlike our parents and grandparents, couples still stayed together thru crisis and hardships during WW2 and those turbulent times when Singapore got indepenence from British rule, ... but in today's context marriage sounds indeed like " jumping from one system to another when quality expectations are not met along the way, some even had pns in addition to DSLR.. some even own more than one DSLR systems... " :sweat:
u see... when people are like that, how to expect to make more babies for Singapore and take responsibilities for the long term ?

If you want to us camera analogy, perhaps "one lens can be shared among multiple camera bodies" which the dSLR exhibited is more appropriate...

Here's a personal example. My online business currently has revenues but no profits. It means I have no savings. Next year, however, I'm projecting to save $1000 per month from my business, growing at 10% annually. Currents savings doesn't take into account what I'm doing, which is why it's really a useless number.
By the way, that's only my side business. I still have a full time job (which pays higher than my business currently). And I'm 28.
