Its my experience that somehow Singapore is the World's most expensive place to buy Canon photo equipment. E.g. When I was in Sydney last year in Oct 2-3 weeks after the launch of the 5D, I walked into a shop that had a 5D for sale. The price after GST refund was about S$5,700. My friend had bought one 1 week earlier from CP and he proudly paid $6,688. Another example is also last year I walked into the big official Canon showroom in KLCC, in KL, and bought a BG E2 for S$220 (after bargaining).

I can give you many examples that its cheaper to buy Canon in USA, HK, etc from shops like B & H, etc. but you know it. On the other hand, when I was asked to inquire about prices for Nikon produsts in Australia, I found that S'pore is cheaper than them.

Hence I conclude its only Canon products that are ex here in SG :

I am so glad to see today in the newspapers that the price of the 30D is about the same as in HK, Australia, etc. Finally, Canon S'pore has woken up, or are not being so greedy! Hooray!

I was going to get it in Beijing, or HK but now that I know the Singapore price is reasonable, I will get it in Singapore. 5% higher would be best, 10% is still OK, but 20% - I might as well buy overseas - heck the warranty - just treat it as if it was 2nd hand - no warranty.

I hope the wait list is not too long.
