300D Firmware Hack. How many applied?

Well, I revert it to the original firmware and try to load in the hacked firmware, but my 300D had no response to the firmware, means it doesnt read the file... and I realise that the original firmware is a FIR file and the first firmware I loaded was also a FIR file. However, these latest files are RAR files? Could this be the problem lying?

Nightwolf, or somebody else here, HELP!!! :cry:

first u have to re-format ur CF card using ur cam after uploading the original firmware to ur 300D. then unRAR the hackware. copy the hacked FIR into ur CF, then pop in back into ur 300D. it shld work *FINGERS CROSSED*....

WinRAR is the alternative format to the popular WinZip. u have to get WinRAR to unRAR the firmware.

ah...let me try. The hacked firmware you downloaded is actually packaged into a .RAR file. Go to http://www.rarlabs.com/ and download WinRAR. If you know WinZIP, WinRAR functions similarly (if not more powerful). You have to extract the file E3kr111.FIR.

Next, you pop in your CF card and format it. Copy the file E3kr111.FIR onto the CF card. Nothing else. Drop it into the 300D and switch it on and cross your fingers.

Thanks JK... Yup, Nightwolf had guided me thru... Didnt recognise the RAR file thing... If the file was zipped using winzip, i would have done it earlier on, not an IT ppl, so... bear with me ya... hahahaha

Sorry to bring this dusty thread up, but just to confirm before I "do it"..
It's possible to revert back to original firmware after I "do it" in case I need to service moi 300D right? :embrass:

you can always go to the canon service center to ask them to refresh the original firmware for you, if all else fail.

I did try flashing the hacked firmware on my new 300D. Didn't have much use for the features though, haha, too advanced for me :bsmilie: So i flashed it back. What is this FEC feature anyway?

Been there, done that, no problem. Just be sure to set all your custom function to the original value (can be obtained from the link posted by Lion). If you didn't set the custom functions to original value and revert to the original firmware, the red eye reduction icon will blink no matter what.

Also, make sure you have changed other settings like FEC value back to 0 before reverting. I hacked the firmware and changed it to -2/3 FEC but forgot to change it back when I revert to original firmware, thus all subsequent flash exposures using the original firmware is at -2/3 FEC..

I think that's the last, the russian guy obviously stopped developing the hack. Guess the only thing I'll miss is the AI Servo. Kinda missed it
