Yes... the hacked firmware for the 300D DOES offer 1st and 2nd curtain sync ...

Check out the link on my sig and select the spring in the city 2006 album. You should be able to see a few shots in page 2 - IMG 4763 especially. Some are attempted shots but still useable.

My quirks about the camera is that:

1. Buffer not enough
2. AF points not enough
3. Centre focus point not sensitive enough
4 Stuck metering mode

Getting the 300D into AI Servo Mode

If you have a FTM lens, moving the focus ring quickly by about half a turn and back will activate AI Servo. This works on the original Canon firmware.

To the person who asked abt the external flash problem, think my friends' external flash connection has something wrong, the external flash doesn't work when he fixed it on. BTW what an FTM lens? sorry i m pretty new to this.

And also i have considered getting 2nd hand cameras, but just kinda paranoid coz stuff like electronic equipment, you really dun know if there are other problems even doing a check. Some problems only emerges after sometimes n not immediately. And 1 thing abt 300d is that it doesn't have auto tracking focus, not convenient for taking moving picts, a pity. So still comptemplating on which to get...

As long as you keep the flash contacts clean of oxidation & contaminants and especially - water... you should not be facing these problems. Get the flash hotshoe cover, this would help. Either that ... the flash has shorted.

There is always a risk in purchasing 2nd hand. Always get a friend to go with you if you're unsure. Another point to note is that its a no-obligation test/view for the item you wish to purchase.

Auto tracking? AI Servo you mean. With the hacked firmware, it works. Albeit limited due to the number of focus points, but generally, it works. I've tested myself during Asian Aerospace 2006.

The ai-servo does not work even with the hack. The option is there but it will not fire when you press down the shutter button. There is a way of tricking it into going into ai-servo with the focus ring but its quite troublesome and not a very good long term solution.
