Well open judging allows one to observe the process and make sure the process is fair and the results are not "fixed".
a few things you can do during a open judging:
1)if you or yr friends have submitted , then you can make sure the entries are judged and not miss out.
2)try to understand the process. There maybe a few round of selections til they choose the finalists.
3)check out the judges, they should be entering scores (if that is the process) onto the score sheets. Score sheets are empty before the judging process start.
4)see and learn from the entries that have high scores
5)in some judging sessions, judges will give their comments at the end of the judging and invite questions from the observers.

good point! think i shall go. 5000+ pictures.. it'll be a great way to see how others see the world.

judging is always very subjective like those of diving and gymnast, that's why sometimes is to study the judges before the competition to get into his books indirectly.haha
anyway nice points mentioned! its always good to learn from the better photos

I dropped by about 12.30, and they said it was all over...I mean how can that be? 5000 + photos in 3 hours??? I wonder how the photos are scored...Anyone care to share what've they seen?

What???!!! You got knocked out? I thought your photos were pretty good...
Geez, this year's SYPA has unfathomable talents...
Really can't imagine.

that's a pretty interesting concept, i didn't know they judged photo competitions in that manner.
btw, where did you shoot your people at work shot - the one of two workers on the roof?
haha there can only be so few winners, i don't think i'm up to standards yet..
2 more years to my last time for SYPA..:bsmilie::bsmilie:
