2nd Hand cheap film SLR

Hi guys, I've returned from P&G @ Adelphi and the nice shopowner quoted me $300 for reparations of my dad's old Konica SLR and a new lens. ($150 each). What happens is that he'll recalibrate and repair the shutter (jams at 1/30 and below), and replace the fogged lens. Prism is gone case as the coating is disintegrated.

What I'm asking is, is this worth it? Is there a cheap Canon 2nd hand film SLR that goes for below $300, possibly with a lens thrown in? If it's possible then I'd rather go for it, as my dad is willing to fund the $300. It'll be more worth it as the prism won't be dirty, and the EF lens will be useful in the long run when I (hopefully) get a DSLR.

Get an EOS A2/5. Goes for around 200 bucks on BnS nowadays. Solid performer. With the additional 100 bucks you can get a 50/1.8. Alternatively you could pump in another ~100 and get the 28-105/3.5-4.5 for just over 200. Good lens too.

Or, if you're interested in a zoom lens that goes wider and longer than that, look for the Tamron 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6 SP AD. It'll cost more than the Canon 28-105mm and is somewhat slower, but the extra 4mm may make a difference for you. Compromise by looking at a cheaper film SLR. I'm no good with those models, but frankly I've seen some going as low as $100...might even come with a kit lens.

i got my eos 500n with a kit lens EF 28-80mm lens for $100.
but it's quite a plastic kind of camera (my own opinion). but after a few rolls, i found it to be very good, even better than digital quality.
so you can scout around in the B&S forum.

CalebK, from my experience dealing with Philip Tay he's a top repair guy and will often give more advise to you on your camera & lens maintenance. :thumbsup:

i would recommend the newer EOS 30 or 33. I think you should be able to get it for less than $200 for the body at B&S, maybe $250 with the battery grip.
