owned this lens before, during the film days, great lens to use on a film camera, good range, reasonably sharp, used to be my money lens when I shoot weddings on film, since I can't afford the 28~70f2.8.
the newer version is f3.5 G lens, thou it is more compact and cheaper, but many still prefer to use the old f2.8~4 version.
if you use it on a DSLR, the range is nor here or there, that the reason I sold it off when I switch to digital.
anyway, if range is not an issue, I would rather get a 35~70f2.8 for better optical quality.
just got my 24-85 f2.8, tested the 24mm range at f2.8, looking quite sharp.
however, the 85mm end a bit dissapointed..it gives f4 the lowest F stop.
tried out the macro function, seem not bad huh..can focus to a very close zoom range like 5 cms.
but i thought u shud already know before buy that at 85mm the max is f4 ? no?
Just curious, where did u get your copy and how much? I might be looking at this as a nice walk about lens and the macro ability will come in useful too!
wah.. i sold my mint optic copy back then for $400 onlyfriend went to hongkong, get him to bought for me. about 800plus. japanese version. made in jap

actually i feel the max aperture at 85mm seems to be a bit faster than f4, was an opinion but didnt get to test it out. that was because i was using a 2x TC for macro stuff and the autofocus was still able to catch and lock.. a little softer on the long end though
any pics from d700+ this lens to share?
tat seem too low...another guy offer me at 680 used copy. another guy again offer me one new copy at 850.
the piece i got is a japanese made version, so i think is worth the $$
can tell me why japanese made version is worth the $$ ???

not too sure if there's any china made version of this lens, all that i've came across is made in japan.

share more test shots leh![]()
are you using the focus limiter already? if you are using the focus limiter i think this lens focusses real quick..sure i will do that soon, i still havent master well the macro function in this lens, indeed it is useful.
i used it in studio shoot, but find that my 50mm prime lens seem focus faster.
Note, that the macro function only allows a slightly closer focusing distance... it does not increase magnification.
