21mm vs 24/25mm

I had the 15mm as well. Very dramatic lens but I found that for street, I'm almost close to the point of banging into my subjects, so I sold it off to mr hookonclassic! haha

Haha...Gary don't regret after you sold me the LTM version...I like the 15mm VC lens...you can take hyperfocus shot from 0.7m to infinity...

I believe this is shot at f4.5 due to the low lighting condition with a M8.2...therefore angle of view like 20mm lens

One of the reasons i sold my 15mm was becos of the "just shoot" kind of experience. All i need to do was to get near and close and snap from hip...at around f8, it was like a point and shoot camera to me...

I disagree... IMHO, I think the 15mm is a very difficult lens to use simply because it captures SO MUCH. Shooting from the hip at F8 will get you photos which are in focus but seldom photos that are properly composed with relation to the vast field of view of the 15mm...

If you simply use it as a "point & shoot" lens then you aren't really using it to it's proper potential... Maybe should buy one again to try again? hehee...

Its good for stuff like these imho:

If you are not close enough..they look so tiny with alot of foreground space in between:)

15mm is too wide for me as well. 21mm is about the max I feel comfortable shooting with. Here's a recent one taken with my S-mount Nikkor-O 2.1cm f4, one of only 300 in existence. I probably shouldn't be out shooting with such a rare collectable, but couldn't help myself :dunno:

Great shot Jon. Oh my, 1 of 300pc? I'm jealous:)

Pikapig, with the 15mm, its gonna shine in extremely tight situations like an MRT train or up front in busy Orchard Rd.

Thomas, that shot is lovely! Did you climb or take a heli to get there? :) hehe

U definitely know how to get people jealous and spread more poison... knowing that the poison is near impossible to obtain...

Thanks guys for the inputs. I have finally decided. I got myself a VC 21mm from Chiif. Haven't really shoot but just use the viewfinder to snoop around Chiif shop just now. I find that if shooting people, it'll be uncomfortably close but at the same time, there are a lot of scene can be capture in the background. If frame up nicely, perhaps it can tell more story.

For eg; If I'm shooting Mr Chii Fei who is behind his shop counter, attending a customer, I can include the whole camera shelves in the background, from one end of the rack to the other. You can see his whole collection of lens, Nikons, leather cases and what not. A viewer will automatically know the scene takes place in a camera shop and what kind of camera shop judging from the background.

You guys get what I mean? :dunno: Ok. I'm confusing myself now. But nevertheless, I think I will love the lens and can't wait to put to use. Hopefully, my theory can be use practically on the streets where there will be tons of background 'distractions'.

Sorry for the wordy post. Thanks everyone, thanks Chiif for your hospitality. :)

Congrats on your choice.. :)

All this talk of 25mm made me take out my hardly ever used Voigtlander 25mm Snapshot Skopar LTM again... Quite a decent lens when stopped down I think...

But after taking a couple of photos, suddenly I feel that 21mm might be a better choice as the 25 is too close to the 28... so good for you!

Chiif, the last time I was in Lemonsha they had two S-mount Nikkor-O 2.1cm f4! Would you like me to get you one of them? ;)

Cheaper than an M9! Lots of people here seem to have an M9 (I don't...).

It beats me too, I just don't understand why the M9 is so desirable... And many people that I know, read MANY, have 2! Some have 3!

I guess, you and I are just not at that league... :)

M9 is convenient coz you save time and cost developing and scanning. The rest is abt the same.

For people who do not know how to handle film, M9 is the only choice for 35mm.

I have well and truly quit M9 coz i have learned developing and scanning. But what a steep learning curve it was.

Aiya... Developing film is easy... if you know how to cook instant noodles, you can do it!

But to cook a good bowl of noodle requires a little more skill and effort.

Actually, it's much easier than reading thick manuals about all the settings on the super function loaded digital camera!

To me, learning how to take good pictures on the digital body has a steeper learning curve. :)

Anyway, Shahrie, hope you like the lens. You make me sound like I'm running a hotel, what hospitality???

Haha. Your shop like hotel mah. People come, take their mind off work, then leave feeling happy but poorer.

Nyway, going to Siem Reap in few hours time. Need sleep. I wonder how many B&Ws I'm going to develop myself after the trip. Plus color negs some more. I suspect it gonna cost me abt $200 just developing. Alas, can play with my 21mm.

LOL.. Chiif... you should so set up a coffee business so that people can eat and drink coffee while talking about photography and getting poisoned by lenses and cameras. :bsmilie:

happen to try a 21mm contax G biogon converted to M mount:
