2012 COE premiums for small cars hit S$81,889

Ppl here are so stupid as to continue rewarding him with electoral success.
Thats endorsement enough for this sure win formula :D

The COE system is screwed.
Now only the middle class and rich can afford this.
Others who may genuinely need it, but are poor will either mire themselves in debt or just cannot afford to have a means to livelihood.

We are a democratic country and the people, esp the poor, has clearly chosen Pay and Pay. They are happy to pay and pay. They deserve this.

In all fairness, there's 53 years (half a century) of whitewashing propagandas by the authoritarian dynasty to brainwash the docile populace over several generations resulting in political and social complacency and an indoctrination of absolute conformability and submissiveness through the education system by suppressing the development of creative thinking and freethoughts.

the COE alone for a small car here costs more than a luxury car overseas. cost of living gone mad....

The last time Marlboro™ Tan said he loves photography, he may be a member here. :bsmilie:

I hope he dun use canon or I might consider selling all my gears. He should use Leica.

Ha ha, you are obviously not susceptible to this brainwashing. They need to work on you. Maybe more handouts the next time?

Sorry, don't like the idea of giving people $00.50 and taking back $50.00. :bsmilie:

Actually I don't ask for much lah, not trying to oust the governing party out from the legislature parliament or anything though I would like to see some much desperate and needed changes by pressuring them thus my perfect scorecard for 2016 is 50.1% : 49.9%. :bsmilie: For their credit in what was once a inconsequential island nation, we do own part of our success as a independent and sovereign city-state to them. :bsmilie:

To be fair....they are in the failure of their own succes. ....they have succeed in progressing the nation and build the world best infrastructure....the current Coe system is in place to curb the traffic in land scrare sg....u don't hear much grievance few years back but after they increased the wealth of the people....everyone rush to buy car....buy house....condo....landed.....and later on private jet and rocket......I am sure they will listen if someone have better idea than current Coe system.....they is no point in sacrificing majority to pleased the minority. ...

The problem and triumph of democracy is that the people get the leaders they deserve.

COE does not really restrict the number of cars on the road - it only allocates the car usage to those who can afford it.

This represents a regressive economic regime.

I am a vehicle owner (of a not so new car which still hurt my wallet). It is relatively convenient. I stay clear of ERP gantries because they do not work either.

Economically speaking to reduce demand for a good or service, it would be theoretically possible to do by raising the price at which it is provided. ERP is one such measure. It jacks up the cost of using a certain road.

However the price elasticity of demand for road usage in the ERP zones is relatively inelastic - this results in HUGE government revenues without a impact on decreasing the number of road users during ERP zone hours. (i avoid ERP zones because it doesn't work, not because I don't wish to pay. Why pay for faulty service?)

Government is fool (I spelled that correctly) of "scholars". Think it works on paper, doesn't work in real life. Same bunch of goondus who built a staircase and then planned a railing right at the last step (making the staircase unusable! )

The worst part is they don't listen. ex-YPAP here.

so many new maseratis on the road... and they wonder how the COE became so high. :bsmilie:

You are a true patriot.

Some people sold their vote (and maybe their soul) for a bus ride and a few packets of chicken rice.

My vote is for sale too, just 1 COE. :embrass:

... U don't hear much grievance few years back but after they increased the wealth of the people...
No leh, my wealth along with many others are still the same if not lower seems as it seems like only the richest 10% elites got wealthier while the other 90% commoners got poorer due to economic inequality. Prior to a meeting so as in order to lighten the mood, the buay kan boss asked if we will be willing to take a 5% pay cut annually to "adjust for inflation". You should hear the pin drop thereafter and I still have to point out to some people that it's a tongue-in-cheek remark. :bsmilie:

You are a true patriot.
Nah, just part of a singular collective consciousness known as the "internet noise™". :bsmilie: The real patriots are people such as J. B. Jeyaretnam, Chiam See Tong, Chee Soon Juan, etc. etc. who dedicated their entire life at the sake of their health and finances fighting without any personal gain for a better Singapore.

I think when i was young, the coe for bikes was something like that

My COE expiring in 12 months, if they can reduce the COE to the price of chicken rice by then they can have my vote.;p

Anyway I am just joking. Citizens should not sell their votes and honourable leaders should not offer handouts to buy votes during election time, otherwise our politics is in a sad state.:o

I think that the worst part of the COE system is that foreigners get to pay $20/day (weekends free, 10 free weekdays) to drive on Singaporean roads.

Even if you drive EVERYDAY that works out to 5k a year or 50k for 10 years. It is cheaper and so much more affordable as you can save $20, for the weekdays that you don't drive.

While SINGAPOREANS have to pay 81k for 10 years.

Wrote to LTA asking them when they are going to revise the VEP. no answer. Ask them, what is the percentage increase of foreign vehicles in Singapore also no answer. I mean if high COE is needed to cap vehicle growth, don't LTA needs to ensure FOREIGN vehicles to be capped at the same rate?????

Yup, that's what some of our hardworking Malaysian colleagues do in fact they even carpool and share the cost among themselves S$20 / S$5 = $4 even cheaper than taking a cab.

Sadly our ideal of what a fair, noble and honorable political system should be, exceeds reality by a few orders of magnitude.
