2 Ngee Ann Photographic Exhibition

Actually one of the picture ( dun wan to say what lah ) i find it very disgusting. I look at it at slide and nearly vommit while having my dinner T_T wonder wether anyone experience it also hahaha

there is one of them that was pretty weird and blehing. lol.

But may be that is what the photograher sees

because the subject is deemed "exotic".

i visited this tourist attraction in chiangrai before, where various selected members of hill tribes are consolidated and moved to live in the small constructed "village" for tourists to pay money to enter and take photos. i'm not saying its like a zoo or whether it's ethical, just that it's a sort of cultural commodification.

heh there's an interesting article abt this in AP that i read.. the last page with that bearded guy? haha he was mulling over whether we expect ppl to live in a 'backwards' manner to improve our photo opportunity.
for example these tribal ppl are often to be tot by tourists to be enjoying the idyllic life. lush countryside clean air and no stress. and every city folk is drawn to the simple life.
but then if you think abt it maybe they are living with minimal healthcare and hygiene standards.
so what happens when photographers show these beautiful photos of them smiling like they are in shangri-la? Would they fight for a cause to let them keep their way of life?
but shld we?

Looking at the online pics, i feel that many pics have been let down by poor printing, images like ziedrich's where there were textures in the original pictures did not appear so in the final print. Some pics were also oversaturated in prints look better on my com screen.

A pity good images do not get their deserved attention.:cry:

hi, actually the one in the website was a different picture from the exhibited print, it was one of the remaining 3 that were not chosen for exhibition. (the four are quite similar in a way)

Looking at the online pics, i feel that many pics have been let down by poor printing

I was under the impression that the prints were to be supplied by the photographers and not made by Ngee Ann. In this case, bad prints would not reflect on the exhibition, but the craftsmanship and/or quality standards of the exhibitors.
