Bring a P&S camera is good advice. Try to borrow/buy a T3 or TC-1, this small babies will produce super images.

not necessary. when i was in switzerland and austria, most of the museums and cathedrals dun even allow photography, cos of the PnS pop-up flash. something abt the flash light spoiling the paintings and art works.

for me,it's 12-24mm and 18-70mm.
very heavy when carry for too long, with tripod lagi worst.
Sometime i was thinking if i could buy a silk sprint pro + 486rc2 combo
cause lighter then 190prob +486rc2 for my D70.

Erm...I tot it's the other way round that most of the time flash is ban in museum???...Even forbitted in the templer in Thailand....Apparently it's to prolong the pain work....can you imagine how many million of flash pops at the potrait of monalisa each year ?:dunno:

20mm on ur D70 will roughly give u a view of a 30mm lens. nice WA prime. but, for me, i rather sacrifice the wider reach and go for a faster lens. the 50/1.8 will really come in handy in the museums and cathedrals. most dun allow the use of flash. besides, the size of the rooms are huge and flash will be a waste of time anyway. ur kit lens will be able to handle any landscape shots.

if u really want light, then just use ur kit lens lah, and do wat smurfie suggested?

*psst... i lighter than espn. can i squeeze into ur luggage??*

squeeze if u can ;)

anyway, i don't have the habit of taking pictures inside museums. i've been to the louvre before, so I won't be doing that again. i don't see a need to take pictures inside the matisse and picasso museums, the 2 museums i intend to visit.

the few other areas besides paris that i will be visiting will be lyon, part of provence and the cote d'azur region. most i of which i believe will be outdoors.

argh. decisions decisions.

In my opinion and based on experience..bring all the lens (with different capabilities) you can..a 2.8 lens though not noticeably brighter than a kit lens can still allow that good sharp handhold shot in high iso as compared to kit lens in a museum which typically is not very well lit. Will also allow you to capture some shots not possible on a 50mm..like i visited this shipwreck museum in Stockholm, if had no wide angle lens, not possible to have taken a shot of the entire ship, which would have been the main feature of the museum. I also feel a long tele lens (at least 200) is esential..very good for street candids and cruises if you are going for any..As for weight (if you are concerned) have a good but smaller camera backpak..

definitely 12-24, 28-70/28-75(tamron)...

but if going to dangerous place, out door / can get wet.

18-70 shd be fine....

How about new Tamron 18-200mm and 50mm 1.8??
This should solve the problems isn't it?

Once again, you are on holidays. Not on assignment.
I dont think you will really bother to change lens all the times.
Go there, relax, buy lots of LV bag and enjoy yourself.
pssstt...buy more LV bag in one receipt, so you can get a higher tax refund.
Cheers :bsmilie:

do u have have any intentions to take indoor shots? if not, can leave ur 50 and 20 behind. bring a reasonably light (but still can support ur cam) tripod along, if u wish, for the nite pics. this shld really cut down the stuff u're carrying. ur kit lens shld be enuf to handle the landscape/street pics u have in mind. ;)

For me... definitely 17-35 & 50 f/1.8 :) A must. :)

Must visit the musuem that is housed in the old train station... i went there many years back... i think it's the picasso musuem..

why is it that with 17-35mm (of course an excellent choice), you'll still bring a 50mm, which is only a tad longer than the 35mm. care to enlighten us?
how about longer zooms like 70/80-200mm?

I agree. Try setting up a tripod in front of Monalisa in Louvre. Somebody will surely knock your camera over :bsmilie: It is even more difficult to get a clear line of sight as everyone likes to stand in front of it to get their pics taken

With a flash, if you dont get it right, you can have light reflecting off the protective glass.
I would recommend a monopod for available light shots.

Even better would be to buy the painting replica from the museum shop. :D

and DONT miss museum d'Orsay.

actually,

I differ from nightwolf's thinking. If you want to take indoor shots like cathedrals, etc, you need the 20mm not the 50mm.

I brought 2 lens on my Europe trip last month and my 20mm f1.8 always stay on my camera in Cathedrals, and indoors as they are pretty cramped. 50mm is hard to use indoors, esp for cathedrals.

but your 20mm f2.8 is not much difference from the 18mm f3.5 kit lens... I think you should just bring the kit lens along. I lugged my minolta 7d, + 28-75mm f2.8 + 20mm f1.8 for 3 weeks in europe. Trust me, the bag is not very heavy in singapore but after one week of walking...

As for night shots, do you stay out after 10pm overseas? I am usually back in the hotel by 930pm so not much chance for night shots as don't really feel safe in paris after dark.

If you like shopping, don't forget to take a pic of the HUGE LV BAG at LV main store near the Arch.

17-35 for my landscapes, scenary (in fact the wider the better), 50mm for my streets, casual shots, the DOF.

For 70/80-200, ONLY if I'm going on a pure photography trip (and if I have one :p ), else I'll not want to carry along, because it's not going to help me much in terms of landscapes, scenary (and no, I don't disagree that 70-200 cannot take landscapes, but just not my kind of style). And given the weight, I'd seriously not want to consider.

I agree wif Thomas.. definitely 12-24 (for landscape) & 28-70 (general)..

Lyon have fantastic picturesque countryside..Wow!!

This line up shld suffice since your intend is outdoor photography. Perhaps even some group shots..Night outings is wonderful..A tripod for your night photograhy will be good.

I have been to France on a few ocassions. Nice place ..Enjoy yourself..

Ah Ha.... Musee d'Orsay is the one.....

hi i use my 28-200 G most of time when i am travelling :) cheap and good lens
should cover most range, sometimes i will bring along a 18-70 too

For most of my travels, I will carry my 20mm/2.8 & 50mm/1.8. These are excellent lenses that are very light to carry.

hi bro, nice lens combi!! tamron + sigma i presume?

im hoping to get a 20/1.8 soon... need it for the indoor lowlights...
50mm a bit too close for me... need wider..
